A new beginning!

I went to my first meeting tuesday and they had another last night, so i took part in it to. its very nice to hear there are others that have the same kind of problems as myself! I know this is only the first step, but i feel stronger allready. I was totally scared on my way into the building that first night and I almost turned around and went out drinking, but as im holding the knob thinking I could just leave, I thought to myself " you need this, man up, just try it" I'm glad i did.
While at my support group the others told me about a therapist in my area that helped them so I called and set up my firt meeting with her. Its going to be a long road but I know the help I need is out there.

AdijerBlack, I am so proud of you for walking into the support group meeting, you are on such a strong and positive path. Keep up the great work and keep moving in this direction. Please keep sharing with us and let us know how things are progressing for you.

You are definitely not alone with this addiction. In his groundbreaking book, "Out of the Shadows: Understanding Sexual Addiction", Dr. Patrick J. Carnes estimated that somewhere between 3% and 6% of the population was sexually addicted. That works out to be somewhere between 9 million and 18 million people here in the U.S. Later estimates have revised that figure upward, and it is now believed that approximately 10% of the population, or 30 million people in this country share your condition. And that number is evenly divided between men and women. That's a whole lot of folks who are sex addicts. So no, you are definitely not alone in your addiction, and you are correct, there is an incredible amount of help available to addicts if they will just reach out and ask for assistance.
