About a month ago I had a total thyroidectomy because I had been diagnosed with Graves Disease. After the surgery they started me on synthroid 137mcg. I can honestly say I feel worst now than I did before the surgery. I have no energy, my hair is falling out, and im gaining a lot of weight. I even feel like I am depressed and I hate it. My boyfriend, my friends, and my family try to be understanding but they really don't know how to help. My endocrinologist doesn't seem to care much about my symptoms...he justold shrugs it off and acts like im being irrational.

my mom got her thyroid cut out and she always complained about being without her medication growing up... it sounds like its your doctor to me maybe you should flip out on him... sorry but I would your paying him one way or another... but the pills are really good for you stay on those I promise... my mom always had a lot of hair in the brush but she never went bald :) I promise that too

First off i hope your mom is recovering well from her surgery. And i actually got referred to a new endocrinologist so I'm hoping this one will be better. I'm staying on my synthroid like my doctor suggested, I just hope he monitors my levels like he's supposed too.

I went through exactly this after I had radioactive treatment. I felt awful all the time and put on about 25 lbs in 2 months without changing my lifestyle. I also started getting incredibly painful muscle cramps before my hair started falling out. All of this stuff gets better. That's where I was a year and a half ago and after taking Eltroxin for a while everything came back to normal. The downside is that I was stuck with the gained weight, but I've since worked hard to get that off again. Don't panic. It absolutely gets better. Good for you for taking control of your healthcare and getting a new Endo. Best of luck. This is the worst part.

Kmf92, I understand your pain. There could be many reasons why surgery didn't work. Please read this blog article here https://askdrking.com/thyroid-nodule-surgery/ and download these 10 dinner recipes (https://askdrking.com/wp-content/themes/askdrking/assets/pdf/10-dinner-recipes-to-help-you-with-thyroid.pdf) that should help you get better. Please let me know if you needed more help.

I’m so sorry you are going through all those symptoms. This is the exact reason why I have canceled surgery 3 times. It’s been 2 years that I have been told I need to have a total thyroidectemy and I can’t bring myself to do it bc 90 percent of people feel worse after the surgery.

@Vick28 my mom, 2 sisters and I all had thyroid issues. They all had theirs removed and then went on synthroid or natural thyroid. I had the radioactive treatment and I wouldn’t recommend it. My homeopathic DO feels it caused my thyroid eye issue
