Absolutely refuse to take the drugs anymore, does anyone have any suggestions for combating PTSD without throwing handfuls of pills at it?
I was just told I have PTSD and am starting therapy. So not sure what therapy will entail but I know my therapist wants me on medication to lower the intensity so we can work on it. From what I can tell from reading on line therapy will or should include talking about the trauma to great lengths and learning coping strategies, Read about treatment here http://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/topics/post-traumatic-stress-disorder-ptsd/index.shtml#part_145375
Have you tried EMDR?
@mf43 you can support me and I will always be willing to read if you want to share with me.
I am looking into EMDR, thank you sizzlebiskits.
Ariel, I have journals filled with trauma that have helped to a degree but when the paranoia sets in hard, nothing seems to help.
@mf43 me too…I tried writing, talking, exercising, running, eating, therapy, forgiving, rationalizing, and other questionable hobbies…lol…nothing works for long as far as anxiety and trauma. But for paranoia…I just don’t care what ppl say anymore. I say fine watch me. I do what I want now, when I want. When ppl watch or say stuff…I tell them “well, I am crazy lol…” or “if you are bored watch someone else.” It really sucks at the lack of privacy. How violating it feels to know that someone watches constantly…but so does God…so whatevs.
Keep in mind there are different kinds of EMDR. All therapists have there own way of doing it. I have found it to be helpful
Anyone have any experience with therapy animals for anxiety?
@mf43
Not personally. I do have a cat who relieves a lot of my anxiety. Good luck.
I currently have a boxer, I never leave the house without her. Before her, I hadn't left the property in almost 3 months. I can say she has helped me tremendously however, there are many places I can't take her. I was hoping some others here might take solace in the fact that an animal can help in certain situations like anxiety. Paranoia, on the other hand, has at times completely locked me up at times, has driven me to violence and even broken me to the point of attempts on my own life. That beast is a difficult one to tame.
@mf43 yeah…paranoia…it’s like ppl know all the little things about me, and judge. Like they see the all of me and find it lacking. I hate it when they assume things I do based on their own motives. Lol I better quit before I start rambling bc it pisses me off lol. Lol a hacker hacked into my life before…just bc someone can do something doesn’t mean they should or have the right. It was force, and felt violating.
