Anyone know how I can get a job in a store without needing to use the register?I've been trying for years to find a permanent position where I can just work the floor but it seems impossible.Cant I get a job doing everything but register?Just to have money to live I find myself applying for jobs I hate and know I would quit.I have experience I can do a retail job very well.How can I get hired at a store with a math disability?Please help!Is there anyway to get around this issue?
what do you mean math disability?
Why cant you use the register ?
I have a learning disability where learning can take longer for me to get and math especially is more difficult.Learning the register and counting money quickly would make it hard when there are customers.I've tried learning it but it's really hard for me.
Emma;
I believe you can do math, but you just have to do it differently that the way others do it. I wish I could show you how I do it.
How about a car salesperson. I doubt they rings those up at the register. You might also look at do on-line retail.
I doubt that exists.And I don't want to do sales car stuff.I'm not experienced besides.But thanks!
Emma;
Don't sell yourself short. I have Dyslexia and have had to either rewire my brain or learn different ways to accomplish the task. People have taught you based on the way they think, not the way you think. Your brain just works a little different from others.
Hi Emma, Mark is correct when he says that you need to devise a strategy that enables you to do number work in a different way. I know that saying that is not helpful to you at all but the employment laws today are designed to assist people in situations likes yours. As a Senior SEND Teacher that advises schools I do have a clue as to what I am talking about:) Have you ever considered a job with your local council? If you lack confidence in numeracy there are many other jobs that you can do very successfully and the council are excellent at supporting people. Give it some thought.
I don't mean to shoot down every option but for the council jobs you have to have a degree and I haven't even gotten a GED.I'm looking for a job i can do.I am trying to be positive and try to feel confident -I know I can do many things...but being rejected a lot makes it all the more difficult.
@emma23 both of @sjhands suggestions are what I would have recommended. Don’t think just grocery either. I used to work the morning stock shift at a drug store. Think of anywhere that there is inventory, they may need someone who is willing to work that early.
Hey Emma, a lot of stores have an early morning stock shift position.
Or perhaps, work as a merchandiser?
Well hey bud I want one where I don't have to write I am fairly good and math but have several language based LD's and we live in a world where I can't make a Facebook post because one day I know my kids will see that there dad is a broken
