My son is in terrible chronic neck and headache pain and has not been able to find any medication that works or at least takes the edge off and not necessarily be without pain. Although who wouldn't want that who is in chronic pain.
Any kind of information as to what has helped anyone with their pain.
Sometimes, when I have a severe headache/migraine, where no amount of medicine would help, I meditate and take deep breaths. Keeping to a healthy diet helps too.
Maybe you can visit this website , you might find some useful information there.
My first question is are the migraines and neck pain related or two separate problems? If the migraine is severe is the neck also severe? Or just one pain without the occurrence of the other?
I have chronic migraines and what has usually worked for me is Excedrin Migraine. It at least takes the edge off for me. Here is the website they have, http://www.excedrin.com/excedrin-migraine.shtml They have some good information on the causes of migraines and treatment suggestions. I think the most helpful suggestion they make is to keep a headache journal of when it happens--what is eaten that day, unusual stress, sleeping habits, etc. This can maybe identify the triggers. For me it is stress and change in sleep schedule, sometimes it can just be random. Even if medications aren't "curing" the migraines or neck problems, aspirin works as an anti-inflammatory drug. So it will help him feel better sooner than taking nothing.
What helps me is to take the Excedrin (it takes about 30 min to be effective) and then lay down in a quiet, dark place. If it is that severe for him I would honestly check in with your family physician to see what is the source of the pain. It may be something more serious.
Thank you… He was a passenger in a car accident and went through the windshield. He was also another passenger and he was T-boned. There he injured his neck severely. Soma would help his neck pain but the headaches are ongoing without any success. These are truly not migraine but I do not what it is.
I am not sure why but I am unable to copy the link here. Let me try another way of presenting this to you.

Zonegran and Cambia works great! I have severe migraines and they help most of the time. But not when my spinal stenosis and fibromyalgia are effecting them too. I live in pain with those 2 and every once in a while i have a bad migraine but those have been the only thing that works for mine besides stadall.
Have him checked out for HHT Ossler Weber Rendu Syndrome. This is a condition that is what they call the silent killer. People have it and don't even know they have it. I have it and just found out recently I have had it all my life. It csuses migraines as well. If he is known to have bad nose bleeds or bleeds really bad when he gets cut. those are signs of it. Also the migraines are signs!
Thank you… He did have a lot of nose bleeds when he was younger but not as much as an adult. I will look into that. we do not think these are migraines because they do not respond with those drugs as they get worse. There are so many types of headaches but most people just put themselves in the migraine section so they can talk to the doctor or people so they may understand what they are going through. There are cluster headaches, tension headaches and many more.
I have been in a couple of car & skiing accidents so I can sympathize with the awful neck pain. I have tried about every medication out there, and nothing has helped longterm. Taking Prednisone helped for the first week or two after the accident, but you never want to take that stuff for much longer than that.
What has been working for me the last few months is a spine and disc clinic here in my state. They do decompression on my neck and back, and also laser therapy. It is nonevasive and feels good! It has made a world of difference to me.
How long has it been since your son's accident? Has his car insurance from the accident been settled? If not, he probably has coverage from that to pay for this type of treatment. It can be pretty expensive to self-pay.
Hello,
I have migraines a lot. I just got diagnosed as having chronic migraines. The doc prescribed me Imitrex 100mg as a PRN(as needed medicine). I took it for a while. I also have schizophrenia and Imitrex caused me to hallucinate. I asked the doc about this and she said that for people with history of schizophrenia, they should not take Imitrex. But, if you dont hallucinate, you should be fine.
But, since I was taken off Imitrex, I havent been able to find anything else for my migraines. I may be having absent seizures. I wonder if seizures can cause headaches, even absent seizures. Does anyone know? Or does anyone have an idea on a migraine medicine that I could try??
Ive had chronic migraines for the last 5 years. Ive taken Ibuprofen. My head/migraine doctor prescribed me Imitrex but, I started to hallucinate so, I had to stop taking it, but havent found something else that helps. Sometimes, I take Excedrin Migraine and that helps but, because I usually get my worst migraines at night and Excedrin has caffeine in it, I dont take it very much.
Ive also had chronic back pain for the last 3 years or so. I havent been in any sort of accident. I was in residential treatment for my schizophrenia and my doctor put me on Prazocin for nightmares(it didnt help). That medicine made my blood presssure drop really low. I fainted a couple of times when I was in the shower. And did hit my back a couple of times. That was 3 years ago, so I dont know if the pain would still be going on now.
I had a CT scan a couple of times when Ive gone to the ER for back pain and I have a fusion of C7 and C1 which is in my neck. I dont have neck pain right now, but, it could start.
Now, regarding the back pain, Ive been on Vicodin when the pain is really emmense. I dont know your history but, maybe your back doctor will be able to prescribe you that for when the pain is really bad.
Showers help me too. And so does meditating.
I hope you find some relief soon NeedToFindStregnth
Hi Needtofindstrength,
Have you tried an upper cervical specialist? A friend of mine went to one a few months ago and got remarkable results. He has had to undergo a laminectomy for a disc, but has had really bad back pain for the past 5 yrs (it woke him up 3-4x/night) until he saw an upper cervical specialist this past summer. He hasn't had any pain at all until since then.
I would suggest a pain specialist.
I have had this for many years, I have been going to a pain specialist and have had great relief from this pain.
I get injections in the neck area and it provides super relief for me.
Not everyone responds to it well, but its a option to consider.
Not sure where you live or if this specialist is in your area, but I have been treated by Advanced Pain Management, and they are awesome.
See if they are in your area and give them a call.
They offer so many options and treatments.
Please try to avoid narcotic pain meds, they do work but can also cause other problems.
I've been suffering from migraines since i was 15 yrs old. Only they have progressed to chronic migraines which is more than 15 to 20 a month. Literaaly i wanted to die than deal with the pain . I ha ve tried every medicine out there to prevent migraines but couldn't get a pain killer because im an ex addict. Finally My new nuerologist gave me botox shots on Jan 19 2012. I had minor headaches after that but no migraine till feb 3 that lasted 3 days. I went to the emergency room and they gave me dalaton a very strong narcotic and it worked. Needless to say i was in the er again 3 more times before i could see my doctor. He prescribed mevalium and a high blood pressure mand nausia medication to take only when i get the migraine and wait 45 minutes to see if it works before i go to the er. Luckly i havent had one for 2 whole days. I will keep you posted to let you know works. I also have fybromyalga and burning in my shoulder. So i live in pain on a daily basis. The one thing i do is pray alot. I pray out loud and ask God to take my pain away and he has helped me. But the pain does keep coming back because i was told it is hereditary. I will pray for you.
