Chemo Side Effects

Hello Everyone. Hope you are all doing well tonight. I have a silly question. My son started his chemo last Wednesday. He seemed to handle the treatment very well. Started to feel sick when he got home and took his nausea meds for the prescribed 24 hours. Sickness went away almost immediately. He has not had any other side effects and he says he has not felt this good in a while. I am confused. I am very glad that he is not having the side effects the doctors told us about but I am wondering if the medications he received are working. Has anyone else skated by without side effects?

In my husband's case, it took a few chemos before the effects really set in. From everything I've read, every person's body reacts to chemo differently. Some have severe side effects while others are minimal. My husband falls somewhere in the middle. For example, he struggles with the nausea, but hasn't lost his hair. (He's had 8 treatments and 4 more to go).

Greg usually feels ill 3 or 4 days after chemo, and then he gets pretty close back to normal until the next round. I hope your son continues to handle things well. You've heard, "one day at a time.." Same things applies to chemo... One chemo at a time!

Thanks Gregswife. I hope all is going good for you. Thanks for your information. I am also glad my son isn't having any problems yet but I am also concerned that it will all come crashing down. Just trying to find out what to expect if it does. Thanks again.

My daughter was diagnosed in early June with Hodgkins. I thought our world would fall apart. I have to tell you how utterly surprised I was. She was a little nausea,s for 2-3 days after her first Chemo but has had little to no side effects since then. She just finished her 10th out of 12 and has been remarkable. She has continued to work thoughout her treatments. Yes she did experienc hair loss, but not all of her hair fell out. We decided two weeks ago to shave her head. Best decision we made and at the right time. We waited until it was very noticable. After her 7-10th treatments she did complain of headaches and some nausea but we were able to deal with that with Meds. Good luck...it's not as bad as you think
