Hello everyone I have wrote on here earlier this year but here is a question I wish someone can answer for me, I finished six rounds of RCHOP but now going to go for RICE chemo on august 11. Has anyone experienced this chemo and what are the side effects, yes I have done my research on the computer but human experience is far more reliable then anything. I am very nervous since I did the Rchop really well no nausea no nothing hoping this will be good then I will get a transplant in october of this year. So if anyone has any information I really would appreciate any incouragement. thanks
Teresa-
I'm going to do exactly what you asked not be done, kind of, because it's all I can do, and that is offer up non-experience-based information.
you said you've done your research, then you probably know what you're up against in the RICE regimen-- Three consecutive days every two weeks of ifosfamide, etopiside, rituxan and carboplatin. since you've had RCHOP you handled rituxan just fine. you'll probably do the same with ifosfamide. the rule on etopiside is that nausea is common when you take it in oral form, but when given in an IV, nausea/vomiting is very rare. so you'll probably have little problem there. the problem--- if you're gonna have one, and no one's saying you will-- is with the carboplatin. and out of three consecutive days, you get that on day 2.
according to the study that established the ICE regimen in 1999, days 1 and 3 don't even register on the emetogenicity scale (ok they do, but they score so low they barely register), while day 2 scores "very high". no surprise since platinum-based chemo drugs are bitches. that said, their potential for nausea is manageable.
Anyone else?
