Cymbalta Approved for Pain Relief

cymbalta has been approved to treat chronic pain as well:

"More than two years after Eli Lilly (NYSE: LLY) first applied to have Cymbalta approved to treat chronic pain, the Food and Drug Administration has finally given its stamp of approval.

After withdrawing its 2008 application, Eli Lilly resubmitted in June 2009. But it took more than a year for the FDA to hold an advisory panel for the expanded indication and a few more months to approve the drug.

Better late than never, I guess.

Of course, "too little, too late" also applies here. Cymbalta, which is currently approved for depression, anxiety, diabetes-related pain, and fibromyalgia, already derives a portion of its sales from patients seeking pain relief. The approval will allow Eli Lilly to market the drug as a treatment for chronic pain, which will boost sales some, but much of the opportunity has already been captured through off-label use."

It is also used in Europe for incontinence.

thats interesting, has no idea what else it was used for

Doctor had me on cymbalta for several years as an anti-depressant. I suppose it's good that it's been proven to have pain relief factors as well. Even though I do take it with other pain relief meds, I know there is a huge difference in the way I feel compared to how I felt before, without it.

I use it for fibromyalgia and degenerative disc disease. Wish I didn't have to take anything, because I know that getting off this stuff is really awful, but I'm hoping that long-term usage is not too unsafe...

CYMBALTA Made me CRAZY BAD REACTION TO IT. I took it for 6 months and then the change hit me all of a sudden my bones in my body tightend up and i was shaking out of control and all i could think about is JUMPING OUT IN FRONT OF A CAR TO END THE FEELING THAT WAS RECONNING ME. I walk home 4 miles from a friends house leaving my husband looking for me for 2 hours very late at night feeling as if i had to walk so fast that it would subside the feeling i was having. I wanted to end it in a way that i never believe could happen to me.
SO BECAREFUL AND BEAWARE OF WHAT IT CAN DO READ ON IT AND KNOW ALL AND I MEAN ALL THE SIDE EFFECT IT HAS.
GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS YOU.

I am on cymbalta for chronic depression. I have to say that this along with lantanon is the best cocktail I have had in 15 years. Interestingly in the 2 yrs I been on it I have had virtually no migraine headaches. Used to have 2 or 3 a month.

I recently started taking Cymbalta as part of my treatment for Major Depression and Fibromyalgia. I find that it does reduce the pain but not very much. That said, Cymbalta is not really enough for me to handle my Major Depression with so I also take 20 mg of Lexapro each day along with the 30 mg of Cymbalta.

That said, I do also have Borderline Personality Disorder and for those of you who don't know what that is, it causes frequent mood swings. Well, I have found that since beginning the Cymbalta, my mood swings are much less frequent. :)
