Dude, If they are making fun of you behind your back it is because they fear you, and don't have the stones to do it to you, eye to eye. You bring out the insecurities that they have with themselves, and dont have the mental capacity to deal with it in another way, so they try to make themselves feel better... Ever seen the movie "Friday" Where Smoke says "I got mind control over Deebo. He be like "shut the f**k up." I be quiet. But when he leave, I be talking again." Cowards soothing their own feelings. Take comfort in the fact that you just gave them a free pass when you could easily "crush them" know that they are intimidated by you and that is without threats or you doing anything different than being yourself. That doesn't say much about them or their character, and anyone that sees them doing it is probably thinking "Oh, so ballsy, when his back is turned." You are a good man for not ripping their arm off and beating them to death with it. Carry on big man. Carry on.

I did cut myself when after I was released from hospital and my family where being abusive, I'm asha,ed to admit it I feel disgusting and wanted to punish myself

In talking to you and spending time with you I have only know you to be a kind and empathetic person always ready to lend and ear and a shoulder to cry on.
