Doctor's Recommendation - Get Moving

Good article about how doctor's are recommending that arthritis patients get moving to alleviate pain and symptoms;

"Arthritis patients increasingly are getting a prescription that sounds like the last thing to do when hips and knees are painfully inflamed: Get moving.

Despite years of advice that the arthritic should lay off their joints, doctors and therapists now say proper movement is the best medicine for the nation's leading cause of disability, whether the goal is alleviating pain, or even protecting against the condition.

The Arthritis Foundation, working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, launched a national campaign this year to spread the word. This is so true. We have had very cold weather for the last few weeks. My mom has not gotten out as much nor has she ridden her stationary bike much lately because the room she has it in is cold and doesn't have any heat in it. Last week, she woke one morning with her left ankle swollen. By the next day she couldn't walk. She had to go to the doctor to get a cortisone shot. I had bought a Compact Exercise Bike a few years ago and had stopped using it. I gave it to her yesterday to use in her living room. Hopefully this will help her out until the weather gets warmer. I'll let you know.

Bluidkiti, thank you so much for sharing your mom's story and how true it is that those with arthritis need to continue moving. My aunts get my grandmother up and moving each and everyday, several times per day. Even if they just get her up and walking around the house because it's too cold outside for her. Any movement definitely helps her.
