Does anyone know of a good Sleep Doc that specializes in all types of Narcolepsy in Michigan ?

anyone? has your own research not yielded results?

So, I guess the answer is... No.

What insurance do you have, if any? Where are you in Michigan and how far are you willing to travel because pwns shouldn't travel more than 30-45 minutes? The drivers licensing laws in Michigan require that you report any medical condition that affect your ability to drive (such as sleep conditions, narcolepsy, so have you been diagnosed yet, or are you wanting to have a sleep study done to get tested? If you haven't been tested, first they will rule out sleep apnea and then move on to narcolepsy.

Any sleep medicine specialist is going to be well practiced in all of the different types of Narcolepsy, there are only 3; type 1 (Narcolepsy with cataplexy), type 2 (Narcolepsy without cataplexy), and type 3 which is extremely rare (secondary Narcolepsy).

Narcolepsy is where your body lacks the sleep-wake chemical, orexin. In Narcolepsy type 1, the autoimmune response of your body is to attack the neuropeptide orexins in your hypothalamus until they are depleted. It also comes accompanied with cataplexy where your muscles lose control during certain emotions and you lose function for a brief period of time. You would know if you had this type.

Narcolepsy type 2 is where you still have some of the neuropeptide orexins, but you suffer from extreme daytime sleepiness. There is no cataplexy associated with narcolepsy type 2.

Secondary narcolepsy is extremely rare and can usually result from an underlying condition that damages the area of the brain that detroys orexin chemicals, typically resulting from traumatic brain injury.

But you see, all sleep medicine specialists are going to be good at treating all of these types because all of the treatments are the same. So it's just like a regular primary care physician. There are good ones and rude ones. You have to take your chances. Just a quick look on my end proved 4+ star reviews for doctors in the Michigan area for you if that helps, but without any other helpful information, I can't help you.
