Fibromyalgia Medications - Knowing your medications can reduce your pain

Make sure that you tell your doctor if a medicine is not working for you. What works for someone else might not work for you. You can reduce your pain by making sure that you let your doctor know how the medications are working for you. The more research that you can provide to your doctor the better off you will be. Note: doctors are not perfect so you have to help them help you by speaking up. I listed popular medications below that are simular. Take note and ask your doctor if any of these could help you in any way. Just me, it really works!

There are a few FDA-approved medications for fibromyalgia and more are in development. Drug options include antidepressants, muscle relaxers, sedatives, painkillers, NSAIDs, and other medicines that ease symptoms, relieve pain, promote sleep, or fight fatigue. Arthritis Drugs

Ambien (Zolpidem)
Ambien (Ambien CR, zolpidem) drug information, dosage, side effects, drug interactions, and warnings. Ambien, generic drug name zolpidem tablets, is a non-narcotic sedative-type sleep medication. Ambien is used a sleep aid used to treat sleeplessness and other sleeping problems. Ambien CR is an extended-release formulation of the medication.

Amitriptyline (Elavil)
Amitriptyline is used not only to elevate mood in people with depression, but also used to help fibromyalgia symptoms and chronic pain.

Carisoprodol (Soma)
is a muscle relaxant used to treat muscle spasms and musculoskelatal pain. Carisoprodol is also used a drug treatment option for fibromyalgia symptoms.

Celexa (Citalopram)
is one of a class of medicines called Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) used to treat depression and other conditions. Celexa is also used as a drug treatment option for fibromyalgia symptoms.

Clonazepam (Klonopin)
is a benzodiazepine medicine that slows the central nervous system. Clonazepam helps some people to relax muscles (muscle relaxer) and relieve pain. Clonazepam may also help relieve fibromyalgia symptoms and restless legs syndrome.

Cymbalta (Duloxetine)
Cymbalta is the second medicine FDA-approved for fibromyalgia treatment. Cymbalta is also prescribed to treat depression and other conditions.

Diazepam (Valium)
is a benzodiazepine medicine that slows the central nervous system. Diazepam helps some people to relax muscles (muscle relaxer) and relieve pain. Diazepam may also help relieve fibromyalgia symptoms and restless legs syndrome.

Doxepin (Sinequan)

Flexeril (Cyclobenzaprine )

is a dopamine agonist approved to treat Parkinson's disease and moderate to severe restless legs syndrome. Mirapex (pramipexole) is also being investigated as a treatment option for people with severe fibromyalgia.

Neurontin (Gabapentin)
Gabapentin, brand name drugs include Neurontin and Gabarone, is an anticonvulsant used to treat nerve pain and seizures. Gabapentin is showing promise as a drug treatment option for fibromyalgia symptoms. Gabapentin is chemically similar to the drug Lyrica (pregabalin).

Nortriptyline (Aventyl)
is a tricyclic antidepressant used to treat depression and other conditions. Nortriptyline is also used to relieve symptoms of fibromyalgia and chronic pain.

Paxil (Paroxetine, Pexeva)
brand name drugs include Paxil, Paxil CR, and Pexeva, is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor antidepressant used to treat depression and other conditions. Paroxetine is also used to relieve symptoms of fibromyalgia.

Provigil (Modafinil)
is used to treat obstructive sleep apnea and promote wakefulness. Provigil (modafinil) is also showing promise to help symptoms of fatigue from rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, fibromyalgia, and other conditions

Prozac (Fluoxetine)
Prozac Weekly and Sarafem, is a Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor used to treat depression and other conditions. Fluoxetine is also used to relieve symptoms of fibromyalgia and chronic pain.

Rozerem (Ramelteon)
is the first of a new class of prescription sleep aids. Rozerem acts on two melatonin receptors in the brain, as opposed to targeting the GABA-A receptor.

Savella (Milnacipran )
is in the class of antidepressants known as selective serotonin and norepinephrine dual reuptake inhibitors. Savella is the third medication FDA-approved for the treatment of fibromyalgia.

Sonata (Zaleplon)
Sonata (zaleplon capsules) are used to treat symptoms of insomnia and other sleeping problems

Temazepam (Restoril)
Temazepam is a seditive used a sleep aid to treat sleeplessness and other sleeping problems.

Ultracet (Tramadol APAP)
is a narcotic painkiller used for fibromyalgia, surgical and arthritis pain relief.

Ultram (Tramadol)
is a narcotic painkiller used for surgical, fibromyalgia, and arthritis pain. Other brand names of tramadol include: Ultram ER, Ralivia, Ralivia ER, and FlashDose.

Xyrem (Sodium Oxybate)
Xyrem is showing promise to treat excessive sleepiness in fibromyalgia and other conditions. Xyrem is a form of gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB), available only from the Xyrem Central Pharmacy.

Zoloft (Sertraline)
is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor antidepressant used to treat depression and other conditions. Zoloft (sertraline) is also used to relieve symptoms of fibromyalgia.
