Firefighters and Cancer

glad i read this article. had no idea firefighters were more prone to cancer. take a read:

"Where’s there’s smoke there’s .... cancer?

Unfortunately for firefighters, that seems to be the case. One who knows is Niles Township Fire Lt. Bruce Vosburgh, a 38-year veteran of the department who managed to survive his own bout with the disease.

So, too, did his brother, Ralph Vosburgh Jr., and, at least for a while, his father, Ralph Sr. Ralph Jr. is also a Niles Township firefighter and Ralph Sr. was a founding member of the department.

“On my 31st birthday, I was diagnosed with testicular cancer,’’ 59-year-old Bruce Vosburgh recalled today. “I had had it removed before that but that’s when the doctor’s office called and confirmed that’s what it was.

“The doctor had told me he was 99 percent sure it was cancerous.’’"
