This chat group is kinda a new concept for me but I have questions and concerns I'd like to get off of my chest. I definitely talk to my onc, he's wonderful BUT I need to talk to people who have been thru the disease and it's treatment.
I was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma, stage 3b.even though I was very sick and debilitated they told me the prognosis was excellent. I had 12 cycles of ABVD but no radiation. I chose not to use a port and I think now that was a bad decision. So far,so good. I've been remission for 3 months. It's not much but it is a start.
I've begun experiencing numbness and extreme foot pain. It started gradually, the 3 middle toes on my right foot. Over weeks more of the foot was involved and my left foot started getting numb too. When I sleep my hands and lower arms get numb too.
My onc said it could definitely be caused by the chemo but what I'm reading about the experiences of other folks convinces me that's what's happening. Is this ever gonna go away? Shoes are uncomfortable, even high quality shoes that seem to fit well. Bottom line, MY FEET HURT! Sigh
You are in my prayers and hopefully, in time everything will feel normal again. Ask your doctor if some sort of exercise can help you with the circulation. After this type of treatment everything is very sensitive and tender. Give yourself a little more time to heal. God bless you.
I HAVE BEEN FREE OF HODGKINS FOR OVER A YEAR. I WENT IN WITH STAGE 4B. FORTUNATELY, MY HUSBAND IS A GREAT CHIROPRACTOR. HE KNEW WHAT QUESTIONS TO ASK. NO, THE PARESTHESIAS DON'T GO AWAY. I DO REAL WELL IN CLARKE'S CLOGS, LIGHTWEIGHT SOCKS THAT STRETCH EASILY. YOUR HANDS MAY BE SOMETHING IN YOUR NECK THAT IS OUT OF PLACE. I WOULD CHECK IT OUT WITH A GOOD CHIROPRACTOR. ANOTHER PROBLEM IS BEING COLD. PUT ON A SWEATER....IT IS VERY COMMON. WHEN YOU GET TIRED, REST. I FOUND OUT I WASN'T WONDER WOMAN. I USUALLY DO WHAT I NEED TO DO IN THE A.M.. RELAX IN THE AFTERNOON AND MOST OFTEN, MAKE DINNER IN THE EVENING. REST IS IMPORTANT. BEING TIRED IS NORMAL, TIME HAS BEEN MY FRIEND, AND I HAVE MUCH MORE ENERGY TODAY. IMPORTANT TO FIGHT THE FEAR CLOUD THAT HANGS OVER YOUR HEAD. KEEP AWAY FROM SICK PEOPLE; YOUR RESISTANCE WILL BE LOW FOR QUITE AWHILE. DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO REGAIN GOOD GENERAL HEALTH. GET PASSIONATE ABOUT SOMETHING; A TRIP, ART WORK, WRITING...SOMETHING. I WILL BE 68 NEXT MONTH....YAY. BE AWARE OF YOUR BODY, WRITE DOWN NEW THINGS AND ASK YOUR DOC. I HAD THE SCLEROSING TYPE AND DO HAVE SOME PAIN AND LYMPH NODE SWELLINGS, DUE TO THE SCARRING. REPLACE FEAR WITH CAUTION. BE GOOD TO YOURSELF.
My husband had 3A, but didn't experience any of the numbness.. However, we were told that it was a possible side effect with treatment. From what I've read about other people's experiences, some people see this get better over time, while others struggle with it permanently. I know that's not much help, but just know that others are dealing with the same thing, and you're not alone. I would ask the doctor if there's something that could be done, and if he doesn't have any knowlege that can help, maybe he can direct you to a doctor that has experience with the side effect of chemo.
I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH HODGKINS LYMPHOMA (SCLEROSING) STAGE 4B. I DID NOT GET THE FEET PROBLEMS UNTIL VERY LATE IN THE CHEMOTHERAPY. I ASKED MY ONCOLOGIST WHEN I COULD EXPECT IT TO GO AWAY. I CALLED THEM FEELING LIKE FUZZY SOCKS ACROSS THE BALLS OF MY FEET AND OUTWARD TO THE SMALL TOE AREA. I WAS INFORMED IT WAS A PERMANENT SIDE EFFECT. IT HAS BEEN OVER A YEAR, AND NO POSITIVE CHANGE.
I HAVE FOUND THAT CLARKS CLOGS CAUSE ME NO PAIN AND I CAN DO ALL OF THE WALKING I NEED TO DO. MY HAIR CAME IN VERY DARK AND VERY CURLY. KIND OF FUNNY, I ALWAYS WANTED DARK HAIR. MY SKIN TONE CHANGED TOO. NOW MY SKIN IS RETURNING TO LIGHT, AND THE DARK HAIR SHOWS ALL OF MY NEW WRINKLES. WRINKLES BELONG ON BABIES AND BULLDOGS. I AM USING ALOT OF OLAY, IT IS HELPING. AT LEAST I WILL THE 68, AUG 24TH. THAT IS THE SECOND BIRTHDAY SINCE CANCER. I HAVE STARTED HAVING SEVERE SWOLLEN GLANDS; I HOPE IT'S SOMETHING STUPID, OR ANOTHER SIDE EFFEC. I WILL SEE THE ONCOLOGIST FRIDAY. I CANNOT ALLOW MYSELF TO FEEL SORRY FOR MYSELF OR GET HYSTERICAL OVER A "WHAT IF". IT IS WHAT IT IS, AND STUFF HAPPENS. THAT'S ALL.
hang in there! my doctor found a tumor in my breast when i was 15. it is benign but it may become a cancer in the future. i really hope it doesn't... when i am stressed i get pains and it affects lymph nodes in armpits area. so i do my best to cheer up, the stress is the worst thing for your health, so don't give up, try to enjoy life!
I was 23 diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma stage 4 in feb tis year.I have undergone 6 cycles of ABVD chemotherapy. I have a PET scan next month.I didn't have any numbness till now.But have a fear vl it occur soon.
I had hodgkins stage 2A and I didn't get much numbness through my treatment, only randomly and not severely. I noticed when I was in colder weather (ESPICALLY in the cold section of the grocery store) is when my numbness would kick in. Make sure to keep your hands and feet nice and warm!!
