For anyone who has successfully stopped smoking marijuana in the past, how have you dealt with cravings? Simply distracting yourself? Detox tea? Meditation? Reaching out to someone in support? Journaling? Or do any of you have other good ideas?
My guess is that it would be similar to quitting cigarettes you have to try things to see what helps you the most. I think the biggest thing would be excepting the fact that it might be extremely difficult and can take several months before you stop craving it all together but you will still have moments where you would like to have it because it's an addiction. I know people that haven't smoked cigarettes for several years and will still think about it sometimes. To me cigarettes is a bit different in that it doesn't alter your judgment. I think it would help if you drink plenty of water, keep bottled water with you all the time, exercise such as walking and anything else you can work in. Journaling and all of the things you mentioned would be very helpful because it's going to take several different things to help get you through. Chewing gum might be helpful since it helps alot of people that quit smoking cigarettes.
Thank you!! Fortunately I did manage to quit smoking cigarettes in 2015 (with an app). Unlike marijuana, I had more of a desire to stop cigarettes. Thankfully my marijuana use has not been during the day- just at night but I’ve been reliant on it for sleep. I smoked cigarettes for 5 years and have been using marijuana for 12 years now. I like your idea of chewing gum- that’s a good mental stimulation. I was thinking I might also restart my blog so I can journal but also share it to the world and hopefully it could help others also struggling one way or another.
@Imdbman when did you smoke the Marijuana right before bed or what? With any addiction or habit you have to outsmart it. So for an example for me to not binge eat at night I had to go to bed alot earlier then I had more success. But with the smoking I had to use several different coping methods. Maybe in your circumstance you could try to figure out why you need something to go to sleep. My guess would be to shut off your thinking and emotions. So if that were the case you could address that area and find ways to actually deal with it that works for you.
