Friday Last Day For Alcohol Energy Drink Sales For Michigan

All alcohol energy drinks must be off Michigan store shelves by midnight Friday to comply with a state ban.

The Michigan Liquor Control Commission announced last month it was banning sale of the drinks because of concerns that the beverages create health risks.

The Food and Drug Administration is requiring major brands of caffeinated alcoholic drinks to be taken off store shelves nationally by mid-December because of similar concerns.

The agency says the combination of caffeine and alcohol in the drinks can lead to a "wide-awake drunk" and alcohol poisoning, car accidents and assaults.
