Has anyone ever heard of the Shingles Virus causing a false positive on an HSV test??!
I seriously have the same exact question!
I haven't heard of that happening....I was hoping at one point because I did have a shingles outbreak lol.
Viral cultures or special antibody tests, differentiate between VZV and HSV viral types. I'm not sure what test(if any) would give a false positive.
It jus blows my mind. Every time I think I'm having an outbreak because I start having extreme nerve pain down my left leg into my foot. And no outbreak every manifests. I just get nerve pain and I know the postherpetic nueralgia is common post shingles outbreak. However I know nerve pain is a common prodrome symptom. I just am wondering why it stops at the nerve pain? I get it every other week. Thanks for responding!!
@IAMMORE
I know!!! It is so frustrating not being able to tell things apart! After several months had passed after me contracting hsv2, i started getting shooting pains on my top left thigh…it would make me jump lol. but no outbreak…
as for my shingles…I got the shooting pains on my back before the rash started.
