has anyone tried zinc and/or magnesium for their tinnitus? mine is very bad the last few days, and I am considering trying supplements for help
I've only just started to use magnesium and zinc (started about a week and a half ago). I'm praying that my tinnitus that has gotten really bad for the last few weeks is due to low zinc. I'll let you know if I get any improvements. Taking 50 mg right now (but I had blood work done and found out I am deficient so I feel comfortable taking that much). If you think you might be deficient, you might want to get tested (along with your copper since the two affect one another) before you start taking zinc (it can affect your copper levels).
Also, I don't think you can take magnesium and zinc at the same time during the day--I think when you take zinc you need to take it separately from magnesium (and take calcium supplements separately from both as well) the reason being (I think) they compete for common absorption sites. ( https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7836627 and https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3584729 )
I have a naturopath appointment this week and I can ask her if she (in her professional opinion) thinks these two supplements can help diminish tinnitus symptoms. (I actually started taking them for other reasons, but also learned since starting them they may help diminish tinnitus.)
Also, I'm experimenting with taking as much salt out of my diet as possible and I started taking Pycnogenol complex which some studies claim can help diminish (even halt) some people's tinnitus (depending on the cause of one's tinnitus, of course.
The article I read about the last mentioned supplement ( https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24988090 ) I think suggests 150 mg of the stuff (which is typically extracted from grape seed and French Maritime pine bark). I'm ordering these two supplements: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GFHPQG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
and
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000530WH/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
(currently I'm taking a 50 mg that I picked up at a local health food store)
According to the shared article it should take months for the supplement to help increase blood flow to the inner ear and relieve symptoms (if it can help me), so in 3 to 6 months I will hopefully be able to tell you if it's effective.
And someone recommended trying Lipo-Flavonoid which is a product you can order on Amazon. If the other stuff I'm trying doesn't work (after maybe 6 months) I may try it myself.
****And in case anyone else is reading this, please note that I'm not a medical professional. All information here is from research online and may contained flawed information, so please check it before trying this stuff yourself. A lot of supplements are natural, but that doesn't mean we can just take them willy nilly without danger :) *****
Best of luck with this, Norseduncan!
@Eyni oh no, salt reduction?!? I could salt salt lol. I am going to look into this. nothing I’ve ever tried has ever worked, and the last few days have been really bad. yesterday I even temporarily lost hearing in one ear…except for the **** ringing, which happens but not often.
