Hello everyone. I'm a single mom to a beautiful nine year old little girl. I'm in my late thirties and raising her alone. I also have my disable mentally ill mother living with us temporarily due to financial circumstances. I'm worried because my mother refuses to take meds and it's starting to affect my daughter.
If she is refusing to take her meds, I think an outpatient visit to a mental institution would be your best solution.
Unfortunately Washington state doesn't allow involuntary committing of the mentally ill. She has to physically assault someone or herself and be court ordered to do so. To make matters worse, I am her caregiver through the state, so I walk a very fine line.
I have tried. She refuses any medical treatment and they won't allow me to force it. When we moved in together she was fine and taking her medications. So I co-signed on a home with her. Now I am stuck with a house payment and a very depressed and unhappy mother. I have no other family and all of my friends live on the eastern seaboard. So nowhere to go and having an extraordinarily difficult time getting out of the house contract (it's actually a private sale).
I have a similar situation, I am working on trying to get out of the environment. It's all you can do. If you can't do that, you will have to give an ultimatum which really is not the ideal situation.
