hi everyone I'm from the nhl group and i recently joined the chemo group. I'm undergoing R-CHOP chemo and i experienced chills this last time and was wondering how many people experience them after chemo? i was also wondering what do people do when on presnizone who are diabetic and then experience high blood sugars. I've gone to my doctor who increased my insulin and put me on lantus as well but yesterday on my last day of steroid pills i went up to a blood sugar really high for me. now they are coming down rapidly. does anyone have any suggestions for how to cope with this problem. well thank you and take care. mbh456
hi, yes I've had training in writing and do have a talent for writing but my spelling is bad at times. ha. how are you doing? i ending up with a ear infection this last week. my counts were low and so i was immunodeficient. I'm on antibiotics so I'm feeling much better and my fever is gone. i only have one chemo treatment left to go. then i have six months off. I'll be glad when my hair regrows and to see what color and texture it is when it grows back. i think that was the worst of getting chemo was losing my hair. my husband was always kissing my head and rubbing my scalp for me and i found that very precious as i was afraid he wouldn't like me bald, but he was ok with it. well, write me more and I'll keep everyone posted on chemo number 6th. take care. Question(s) -
Is it normal to have a "vacation" from chemo? If so when do you have to go back or how do they know when to put you back?
Why would you go along and be doing really well handling the chemo and all of a sudden after a chemo treatment suddenly have all of the side effects happen at the same time?
I am a partner of someone with lung cancer and I don't see much info on some of these issues.
well, i had 6 courses of R-CHOP for non hodgkins lymphoma and they give you 6 months off then, start the R part of the R-CHOP only but each cancer is different. they went by a second pet scan i had done and i was just about cancer free. now if i start getting symptomatic again they will order another pet scan and restart chemo then. i get all kinds of side effects from chemo and they never know how a person will react. i take compazine and ativan for nausea and vomiting. i take pain med for pain. i found the if i alternated the ativan and compazine i could hold food down easier. now for runs i take Imodium up to 10 in 24 hours. but your partners doctor may prescribe differently i certainly wish you and your partner well. i hope i was able to answer you about why I'm getting 6 months off. Thanks - it gave me a perspective!
My partner was taking ativan as well, but the doctor gave it to him for sleeplessness; to alleviate the “hyper” effect of the steroids he was taking during radiation, so he could shut down at the end of the day. It all seems so very complicated.
Thanks again
yes ativan is a wonder drug. i often took one just for gitteriness before i would get chemo. worked really well. also curbs a throw up in it's tracks afterward. i get hyper from pregnisone myself and stay up all night so I'll try one of my ativan's. thanks for letting me know. hope your partner is doing well. let me know. keep me informed ok?
