Hi all! I am brand new to all this...but hoping someone out there might be able to shed some light on my situation.
I am a healthy 27 year old female who has recently started trying to conceive. I was on birth control from the time I was 14 (due to irregular cycles - I would bleed for 3 weeks, then off my period for a week). In December I stopped taking birth control and have since experienced irregular periods. Cycles last anywhere from 28 to 40 days, and the periods are anywhere from 4 to 9 days.
In my frustration, I called and asked my GYN to run some blood tests. Most everything came back normal...except my thyroid is slightly elevated and progesterone a little low...oh, and my LH is 162.5 and FSH is 32.5.
GYN has referred me to a fertility specialist...but I am sans diagnosis until I can get in. Probably another month or so.
Has anyone had something similar happen to them? At a loss and hate playing the waiting game.
Thank you all for your time and sharing your experiences!!
Hi and Welcome.
You say you’re tired of the waiting game. The function of your body’s natural anatomy has been interfered with hormones artificially for 12 years!! Your body really needs time for the natural function of God’s anatomy to kick in. This may take some time to make up for 12 years of artificial hormones. The good thing is that you are not at the age of a high risk pregnancy (35 yrs & over)
I’ve been on birth control once in my life to regulate; my periods have ALWAYS been regular until I moved to another country to study & it went out of wack for some strange reason.
My opinion: Hold off on going to a fertility ‘specialist’ IF you want things to happen naturally. With a fertility specialist, there’s a chance you may end up with a multiple pregnancy which is more difficult than a singleton. I’ve never been to one but I had a twin pregnancy which was a living nightmare.
You just stopped your birth control in December. Be patient and take it one day at a time. YOUR AIM should be to regulate your periods naturally WITHOUT the pills, patches, injections etc. When you get a regulated period (whether it be 3 days or one week or 9 days), then you are able to pinpoint what is the 'norm' for YOU and you are then able to pinpoint the days you are ovulating (great time to have sex). Pray to The Lord if you believe in Him, read things for yourself & don’t depend on everything your OB/GYN says. We actually know our body better than anyone else if we observe what it does and what happens to it naturally. It’s wise and okay to start taking your Materna, folic acid now even though you may think you don’t have things under control as yet. You have to believe. I hope this helps.
Thank you for your response! I appreciate the advice! We definitely would love to go the natural route for getting pregnant, just very scared about the super high LH and FSH numbers which are in the menopausal range. Guess more than anything, I'd like some facts...do I even have viable eggs since my levels are so high? Then again, I am getting periods although irregular.
Guess I'm just impatient. I'll be trusting my instincts and doing lots of praying, that's for sure!
@Rcl87 Frustration & impatience are understandable. And you are so right, at least you are having periods.
And, Despite what odds doctors may throw at you with their “facts”, the good thing is, God’s power beats all “odds”. I have friends who are doctors & says they’ve seen it all. So, they don’t care that their biological clock is ticking & they haven’t started a family yet due to their demanding studies/career.
As long as you’re alive, there is hope. One day at a time.
