Good luck Sammy. Take your time, give yourself space. You're ready, so go for it. Just remember, suboxone is actually strong and "sticky". Read up on healthy brain chemistry.....exercise, good positive experiences, good food, vitamins, etc....

And stick around here....we'll help you out! ;) you can do it and we support you.

Hello Samantha...I'm on day 10 of no suboxone, I taper from 16mgs to 8mgs and then took little pieces as needed...then cold turkey...not easy but totally worth it...if you taper down like the doctor says you'll be fine...you probably won't suffer as I have...need anything we are all here for you...good luck and never be afraid to free yourself from anything...

Thank you both very much. So happy to hear your ten days clean. How do you feel? I'm scared but soooo ready!!!

@SammyC77 we are all here for you…keep in mind I went from a pretty sufficient dose to cold turkey, don’t let anything I’ve written scare you…I’m so much better than the first few days, every day is an accomplishment…if your tapering then you will not suffer as much, stay on what they tell you…I tapered myself because after 3 years my doctor had me on the same dose…he was 83 yrs old and just retired…I don’t think he understood how to use the drug properly…you can do it…we are all here to give you any support needed!!

There are ups and downs but overall you will feel more clear headed and more alive as time passes. It's ok to be scared you just keep it going and keep letting us know what you need.....:)

1 mg. of Suboxone is actually a pretty decent dose so to speak. I've read somewhere that 1mg. of Suboxone is about equivalent to 25mg. of say, Oxycodone. It is designed differently, so while Suboxone sticks nicely to your receptors and satisfies the opiate craving, it is not in that short-acting, get you high category. In that sense it is the perfect thing.......for the purpose of getting off of opiates entirely.

But this is why so much of what I've read around it shows that 8 mg of Suboxone twice a day, is probably the kind of dosage that would be appropriate for someone with a fairly substantial heroin addiction, and not for someone who say, takes 8 vicodins a day instead of 4. And I have read of people who ween down to 1/2 a mg, 1/4 of a mg......even 1/10 of a mg. near the end. So take your time with Suboxone weening. Very meticulous and deliberate and planned. I would think that even someone on a very high dose of suboxone, for a long period of time, can properly ween off, without withdrawal issues, over say, 4-5 months, at the absolute maximum. Probably, one or two months will suffice most people, and through that there may be some mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms here and there.

And Samantha I just wanted to add that it's half of the puzzle. From a dry, mathematical, chemical standpoint, we can sit down and draw up a milligrams per day plan and have a day on the calendar when it's all over. That's wonderful.......but there's the other half of the puzzle....where does that now leave you, your life, and your brain chemistry moving forward? So this could mean therapy, or group therapy, it could mean lifestyle changes, friends changes........addressing what caused all of this from day one. And so, research how to naturally help support/replenish/rejuvenate good natural brain chemistry....endorphins and such. Exercise may be #1 top of the list for this, but there are many other good things, natural supplements, etc.

I read somewhere that from a developmental standpoint, when we start doing drugs, especially as teenagers, in many ways we halt our maturity, our brain development. So on many levels, if someone is getting high constantly from age 16......when they stop at age 35, there is all of this stuck development, as if we're stuck on 16 and now we can begin to mature again.

I'm very proud of you terry Ann. That's wonderful!

@SammyC77 there are bad moments but that’s when I do something…walking, cleaning or just talking to someone who listens…

That's why I joined this site :)

I am in the same boat, not on suboxone as long but I am getting my body chem leveled out. Good luck on your journey

Hi micro. Can you tell us a little more about that?

Hi micro. Doesn't matter the length of how long you have been on it. It's still hard to come off of no matter what. How are you doing it?
