Hi I am 35 Years old and I am dyslexia. Normally have hidden it from everyone I know all throughout my career. But now I am having difficulty progress at work. I see I am an engineer and am having difficulties passing my licensing exam and its holding me back from advancing. I have tried everything to past this test from taking review courses from studying for months for it. But still can't seam to pass it. I have been pasted up from promotion several times cause of this. I need help? Can someone give me advice on what to do I love what I do but this exam is ruining my life right now?
Ok being LD is definetly a challenge but we have rights. Under the disabilities act we are allowed to have assistance with test taking. At 31 I had to take a civil service exam to keep my job and because of my LD I never seem to be able to pass tests or understand what I'm reading. I had myself tested by a LD specialist who provided the needed documentation so that I could get assistance with test taking.
@Lilith13
I will looking into this. I am looking for anything that can help at this point.
If you need help doing research I'd be happy to help. I understand the frustration.
Also look up LD site of America and very good info as well as the law and rights of people with LD... Hope this helps a bit
Maybe you should let your employers know. They may make more allowances for you to take a modified version or more time.
It depends on how your dyslexia affects your ability to to tests.
For me I could not do multiple choice questions. So I arranged to have my exam read aloud to me.
It made all the difference in the world. Does your local law require your examiner to accommodate you?
Can you for example bring in a "tablet" that can read your exam out loud to you?
Can you get a tester to read it out loud to you?
Do you need it read out loud?
Maybe you just need more time.
You have to find out what works best for you. And then see if the examiner can accommodate your needs.
