Hi Olivia,

Thank you for contacting the National Eating Disorders Association and sharing your story with us. The phone number that your friend gave you is for our information and referral helpline here at NEDA. The helpline staff is more than happy to talk to you about your experience with your eating disorder and provide you with the appropriate information about everything from general information and health consequences of eating disorders to treatment options and insurance issues. It is completely understandable to feel trepidation about calling the helpline, as it is sometimes difficult to voice your concern to others. However, the helpline is a confidential and supportive place where callers can express their concerns and ultimately begin their steps toward recovery. The helpline is open from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm PT Monday- Friday. If you contact us and we are not available to take your call, please leave us a message and will get back to you as soon as possible. You can also correspond with us over email and we will do our best to provide you with whatever you need.

It’s great that you have such a caring group of friends to support you, especially since you have been dealing with your eating disorder for some time now. Seeking professional help for your eating disorder is important, and finding the best treatment for you is essential. There is a treatment referral search on our website at http://www.nationaleatingdisorders.org/get-help-today/, or you can call us and we will go through the process of finding treatment with you. We are here to help, so we are happy to take you call!

Best wishes,

NEDA Staff
