How do I stretch out my pain meds..I am going to run short this month and I am freaking out!

I also am on monthly pain medicine and it is hard to remember when you take your last pill. I personnally ran out this month and went to the doctors and told him the truth, he wrote a different prescription to get me through for the next week. Also another thiing I do is write the time down on when you took your meds, and another way, can you cut them in half??
