Hey everyone. A while back, my dad wrote me a note saying that Confession wasn't helping me any. Well, I was kind of offended at this. I am a convert to Catholicism and he is a Southern Baptist. He was basically saying that it isn't helping me any because I still have bad habits. Well, I guess he doesn't realize that going to Confession doesn't make you a perfect person. How can one deal with such criticism?
Ave Maria, I am sorry for how your father's comment made you feel. I grew up in a pretty religious environment and then broke away for numerous reasons. I am spiritual rather than religious, and my father really pressured me to go to church. For me, it's a very personal and should be a natural/organic decision. You made such a beautiful decision to become Catholic, because that's what gives you peace. I am sure that your father means well, so maybe smile and say thank you, and explain to him why this is working for you. That's what I did with my father and it worked.
