How to treat your pets with diabetes

make sure to know signs if your dog/cat has diabetes:

"Max, a 14-year-old Bichon Frise, exhibited many classic symptoms of diabetes, including excessive thirst and the need to "go" frequently — or worse.

"Wetting his bed, which he'd never done before because he's pretty well trained," said Sandy Moehle of West Hartford, Max's owner.

Just like people, dogs and cats can develop diabetes.

Max was diagnosed with diabetes last May after a visit to the veterinarian and a blood test revealed "his sugar levels were really high," said Moehle. "They confirmed he had diabetes."

"The big hurdle for cats and dogs is they need injections," said Marnin Forman, a veterinarian with Cornell University Veterinary Specialists in Stamford. "Diet and pills don't work — it's not like humans.""
