My husband was diagnosed in September that he had Hodgkins Lymphoma. He just had his 5th Chemo treatment. He saw the doctor before his treatment and the doctor felt around his neck where the tumor was and he said it was gone. He will be getting another PET scan on Tuesday to see much it has shrunk. It sounds promising, but will see what the PET scan shows.
The only problem that he seems to be having is extreme nausea during and a few days after his treatment. He gets really cranky and short tempered because of the Chemo and the nausea. =( After that, he's fine and his normal self.
I was wondering if there is anything I can do to alleviate the nausea and moodiness. We were given some great ideas to try, but was wondering what all of your suggestions.
When my husband was going through chemo, he slept most of those first three days after treatment. That seemed to help him deal much better. He had treatment on Friday mornings and I didn't usually see much of him until Sunday night.
I’ve tried to get him to take naps whenever he starts feeling tired, but he says he doesn’t need to. So, I try the best I can to make sure he does everything else he’s supposed to do.
Thank you Gregswife for the words of incouragement. =)
hey Neliena,
I found this site about a week ago, I am a 30 year survivor of hodgkins, stage 3. Took radiation and MOPP chemo back in 1980, been just fine ever since, I run, ski, bike, have tons of energy, and in fact the healthiest days of my life were AFTER I had the disease. Really don't even think about it much anymore, but I happen to have been 'officially' diagnosed on my 25th birthday, recently turned 55 and realized it has been 30 years, did a little googling and found this site.
This stuff is very beatable, just hang in there and stay positive.
I found that starting prednisone a few days before my shots really helped me with the nausea, but that was MOPP and prednisone was one of the drugs administered.
Hang in there, this is a very beatable disease and the doctors have a good handle on it, I am proof of that!!
WOW! How awesome is that! That is very incouraging news!
You know, I don’t think the doctor even told us what stage my husband was in, and we didn’t even ask either. I think my husband was in shock at the initial prognoses.when he started treatment. I will make a note of it to have him as his doctor about that. I don’t think it had gotten far though.
I just had my 4th round of chemo and have had minimal nausea. I receive Emend and Dexamethason pre-Chemo via IV then in pill form on day 2 and 3. The drugs keep the nausea to a minimal. If I get nausea, I drink some Ginger Ale and it helps. A high protien diet and lots of water also help.
I found myself becoming a little cranky and realized I wasn't sleeping well due to the Dexamethason so I now take Ambien to help me sleep better the first few nights so I am not cranky anymore.
Talk to the nurses they should be able to give you even more suggestions.
Hang in there shan, sounds like you’ve got a great attitude, and attitude is evereything.
And you’re right about the nurses, they lend incredible support.
