I am a 46 year old woman with Narcolepsy, cataplxy, Hallucinatoins and paralisys when waking. plus sleep apena and diabetes. I wish I knew the magic answer or could snap out of it like a lot of people treat me. I get great advise like; you should go to bed at a better hour and eat right. My mind is so foggy sometime that I have taken my meds twice with in a short ime period. I sleep through my alarm and sometimes cannot move my eyes or other body parts when I first wake up. I fall down and get dizzy from meds. I PASS OUT AT MOVIES OR OTHER STRANGE MOMENTS. My body will go loose and I look stupid! I have been trying to get SSDI and after 2 + years I have a court hearing. I am afraid that they will tell me to buck up and go get a life.

I'm really sorry to hear about what you are going through. I think a lot of us go through things like this, and I know it is really difficult to deal with the indifference of people, but you are not alone, we're here for you. Why do you have a court hearing? Is there any way we can help you get through this? Keep us updated on how you are doing.

Hugs,
K.G.

@SleepyHead It is hard to find something a Narcoleptic can handle. If you tell them up front about your needs, most jobs freak out and go to the next guy. finding the right place that will be open to a swing type shift. For if you work to long or too late you also will not function at your best. Details are tough to manage in computer work or repeat work. you loose your place n the routine and make mistakes. Something with a partner and that you are moving part of the time is best. also a lunch time nap in a quite breakroom or car can help too. Always have a person who checks your work if you find yourself zoning or sleepy and foggy. Working with people that cause you to keep talking and writting down notes evn for short tasks and cross off as you go.
