I am a 69 male and developed eczema 5 years ago. What I don't understand is that I can have a day without any itching to the extent I want to scratch until I bleed. I try to manage my skin by using various moisturizing creams. Anybody any thoughts on what else I can do?

@burnsie I am the mom of a 13 year old daughter with eczema, since she was a toddler. It has not gotten better, as time goes by its worst. We tried all kinds of moisturizing creams. At this time, she's seeing a dermatologist.... Yes the dermatologists has given her pointers on keeping her skin moist. Coconut oil is a good moisturizer instead of creams. My daughter is using prescribed medicated creams. It's oK now, and she's not so itchy, and bleeding. But winter time she has the worst break outs. Be strong, the best is yet, to followed. SG friends are here, to support, and be supported. Be hopeful.

Hey burnsie.
I am a young adult male, and I've had eczema for most part of my life. Until 2 years ago, I started trying out not only moisturizing my skin, but also try out new kinds of bed sheets, shower soap and detergent for my clothes. The combination I have today works wonders, and I have not had a ecz fit for nearly a year now. I could hardly describe the things I have now, since everyone's body react differently, but do try out a new bed, smoother sheets, hypo allergic detergent and soap. Good luck!

@tallestluke I agree with tallest Luke. Also search for this on next ‘daily mail eczema oats’ also put a thick layer of diprobase on and cover with cling film this helps soak in moisture leave for a few hours.

I'm 55 and been suffering with eczema chronically for 5 years. At times like last week, it was at crisis levels, with weeping eczema so I had to go on antibiotics. Most creams I find just make my skin itch more, and I just can't use them. I did just buy something online called Salcura DermaSpray, which I'm finding somewhat helpful but only on areas that itch mildly, not intensely. It has a 60 day money back guarantee, which is almost unheard of, so it's another reason I tried it. So far, it works well enough to keep it.

The worst part, as you know is the intense itch. For me, I find one thing that does help alot is only wearing long sleeve cotton shirts or sweatshirts. My eczema is on my left arm. I find when I wear short sleeves, the exposure to air makes the itch crazy. Wearing long sleeves, the itch is much milder and most of the time bearable.

As far as sleeping is concerned, I take 1/2 an Ambien pill every night. Without it, my quality of sleep just sucks. With it, I get a really good sleep most nights and it lets met escape for 7-8 hours. Hope that helps.

Net not next! Sorry !

Mine is the worst in the winter time. I have really bad break outs during that season and it sucks! I use a medication cream from my doctor that helps with the itching because when I do end up scratching I do it until I bleed, and my skin bruises really badly. My doctor told me that it won't ever go away. it is a life time condition. I've heard that coconut oil is helpful and lots of people use Aloe Vera to help as well, however for me, I'm allergic to Aloe so I can't use it. Mine is on my lower legs and it's insane. I naturally have sensitive skin as well all over, but my Legs are by far the worst of what I've had. I can't wear pants that are too tight or too close to my skin other wise it goes crazy.

@Regal_Witch13 Although I must say that this summer with it being as hot as it has been, my eczema has been way worse! Even my cream isn’t doing anything because of the heat… It sucks so badly.

Not sure what you've tried, but I have summer eczema and I felt like I had tried everything under the sun, but about a month ago I tried something new and my eczema was essentially gone with in 3 days!

Its called Cerave (although I get the off brand). They have a gentle cleanser and lotion (its in the face wash aisle). Although its technically for your face, I use it everywhere and follow up after the shower with the lotion while my skin is still wet.

Its a little expensive like $10 a bottle, but it worked miracles!

Mine is pretty much the same all year but progressively spreading. The desire to scratch until you bleed is often so strong and not always easy to resist. I have tried various creams and potions but always come back to Diprobase prescribed by my doctor. Mine does flare up when under any sort of stress and unfortunately my wife is a "stresshead" so that I am sure does not help. Last year I had acupucture which did help a bit but most likely because I was completely "at rest" for an hour but I got to dread the needles being put into me so gave it up. Have used Aloe V oil in the bath and no doubt like me you will try anything. I have been reading a bit recently on foods and seen it suggested that using gluton free stuff might help. Anybody else tried to change diet?
