Triple Hit Lymphoma: My husband was diagnosed in late April and started Chemo. After his first treatment he had 2 mouth infections and 2 different UTI's which were treated. However before they were cleared 21 days had passed and it was time for his next treatment. After his second treatment his levels dropped so low and he was having copious amounts of diarrhea stool (4000 - 5000 cc's of stool a day) that 2 days post he was admitted to ICU for 6 days. They continued treating the symptoms which continued to increase. Long story short he made the decision to leave the hospital and go on hospice. When we left the hospital they stated he had 1 or 2 weeks life expectancy. Well after 10 days home and the chemo was totally out of his system he is back to being his healthy self minus the use of his legs which were affected from the original lumbar and sciatic involvement. We have been home seven weeks and he is experiencing no pain or adverse effects. Is there anyone else out there with any experience with Triple Hit. I'm considering to drop him from hospice and go in for a second opinion.

You don’t say how old your husband is, what his Triple Hit was specifically, or what the chemo regimen was, but they are still learning a great deal about the double and triple hit lymphomas. Was he treated at a comprehensive cancer care facility, where they have access to the latest research? It sounds to me like it might be well worth going in for a second opinion. Depending on his age and health now, there might be other options for treatment that might work.

Just to let you know – I have a history with Double-Hit Lymphoma, which my transplant doctor admits might have been classed as triple-hit by a different doctor, because it turned out that I had three different double hits, depending on whether they looked at translocations, protein expression, or morphology. I’m a bit over two years post-stem cell transplant. There are no guarantees, but they are learning so much about these multi-hit lymphomas all the time, that it is worth getting second opinions – just make sure you go to a cancer center or comprehensive cancer center.
