I have a 6wk old, developed a plugged duct which became mastitis which, despite being on antibiotics, became an abscess. Has anyone had an abscess and if so, what procedures did you undergo. Had it partially drained with a syringe today and the sample is being sent to a lab but there's talk of putting me under and doing surgery to completely drain it. Sounds scary. Just looking for how others got past it and hopefully continued breastfeeding.
My sister had to have surgery as well, she had a nurse come in daily (insurance pays for this!) and have it packed and tended to. She continued to nurse on the other side and pump on the injured side and she is still nursing her almost 2 year old, so there is hope! So sorry you are going through this!
