I have a question for everyone: Do you think it's possible to develop PTSD from being emotionally abused?
absolutely
@livingwithcomplexPTSD I’ve been in a very toxic relationship for five and a half years and it’s been riddled with him being emotionally abusive toward me. I’ve had panic attacks before when it comes to him and I’m honestly scared that I will run into him when I leave the house, as we live in the same town. I don’t wanna self diagnose but part of me feels that all of those years have given me PTSD
The DSM-5 criteria for PTSD accounts for emotional abuse, whether its happening to you or you are watching it happen to someone. People can develop PTSD for a large range of reasons, WHY is not really the issue. if you are suffering intrusions and avoidance, and negative alterations in cognitions and mood then you are feeling the effect. you should seek help to better understand what you are going through - just know that what you are feeling is justified and you are not weak (rather the oppsite )
It's impossible not to develop PTSD from being emotionally abused is more likely but we are here to help...
