I know it happens but anyone on here ever experience a false negative result with a swab/culture test?

Idk but I was just got diagnosed a few days ago by my routine pap. Being positive. I haven't been tested positively or neg for GH yet. Too early for me. Sorry! I can't help you much. Good luck! Hugs!

I had a culture swab done and was tested positive for herpes, I have never had a OB, so after I get blood work done I pray that it was wrong.

I didn't do culture swab for herpes but did for other std are which was neg. HSV cells show up in my routine pap. I have no symptoms so I'm confused if I really has it or not. The doc told me I have to wait at least 3 or more months to do a blood test or two maybe a culture swab for herpes as well. I'm praying for you too. Hugs!!!

It's also good to check in with a dermatologist because they would then take a culture of any bumps or blister and be able to tell you vs waiting that long

I got a cotton swab test done on an assumed open sore caused by the herpes virus that a culture was done on to see if I had herpes. It came back negative. I got a blood test done. It came back negative. When I got the results for my Pap smear it came back positive. I am so confused and hurt. I just found this out a little over an hour ago. My boyfriend thinks I am being selfish because my reaction to this news. I am grieving my health, my worth, and my future right now. I never felt the need to not exist more than I do now.

@Lalabug My culture & blood tests also came back negative. Are Pap smears able to detect it better? Btw, u are not being selfish! Everything u are feeling is totally understandable! I hope u are feeling better about yourself now!

Both swab tests said negative for me

I had another blood test done on Monday. Results came back negative for hsv2, positive for hsv1. I know I've said this a few times but I've had cold sores for as long as I can remember. Had some spots pop up on genitals. Swab can back negative. But now I'm having an on on the center of my thigh. I don't understand why ob's keep happening "down there." This is 3rd one in last 2 months. I have been really stressed but I haven't had a cold sore on my mouth in Yrs. Its the same virus, so why do I keep having ob's????

YES i did today. I found out that my swab test on my Ulcir for down there came out negative and that my blood work came out to be positive. It was so confusing for me.

I was told that the blood test was more accurate because sometimes the swab test would give a false negative.

So upset because I've always had blood work done in my past and annual exams but never came out with such results as herpes. It was either normal or a uti. What pisses me off is that over this weekend I went to the hospital for another possible UTI and they did blood work. The blood work came out clean and they gave me meds for a uti. But when I went in to check with my doc to see results on blood work they did two weeks ago it came back showing I had the herpes simplex. I was mad at the fact y it didn't show in my past blood work. And she stated its a desperate blood work they do
