I need to quit smoking. I started 6 years ago and it helped

I need to quit smoking. I started 6 years ago and it helped my anxiety, still does. I am having surgery soon and of course this means no smoking pre or post for at least a month. The thought that I have to quit NOW makes me want to smoke even more. Do you have any advice on how to deal with this?

Does Gum or patches help? Have you tried quitting in the past?

@CKBlossom I half tried I say. My heart wasn’t in it, and I used a patch. I didn’t think it worked for me because even when I was wearing it, I kept obsessing over the idea of stepping outside for a smoke. So, the problem is that this feels like it goes beyond the nicotine then…

@Newcomer94 I would suggest a book by Allen Carr called the "Easy way to Stop smoking " i smoked for too long. Please give it all you've got and save yourself decades of the same crap. Some people don't get a second chance at health after smoking. Deal with it now before it does permanent damage. Spend a day visiting sick cancer patients in a hospital so you can see the real outcome of being a smoker. That will help give you a clear picture.

Btw.. Can I ask what is the surgery? Peace :))

Well, i had my last cigarette yesterday, and i am surprised that i am not dying to have one now. No idea what that is about, but thank God though. I will check out the book. The surgery is to remove some cysts, nothing dangerous but major surgery still.

hope you conquer dear. Feel free to chat to me about your feelings. I too have just started the journey.

@anonymushepx I know what you mean. I often found myself looking at people enjoying a cocktail or coffee without a cig in hand and thought to myself, “now c’mon, how come I can’t manage to do that?” It does feel like you’re a prisoner of the vice. No coffee?!!! lol wow, you’re a champ. Now that is something I can’t give up.

I was never really much into it, just needed for energy boosts towards the end of the day at work, now replaced it with 100% juice, enough sugar to keep me up haha
Noww about cocktails without a cig l don't know how its gonna go lol
Have been off an alcoholic beverages for 2months because l tend to puff it up more when l drink haha

@anonymushepx Yup… something about a whisky sour and a cig together…Makes me so at peace lol. I am going to miss that. You know, actually, coffee doesn’t do anything to me energy wise. I just like the taste… Maybe I should just replace it with something else. One thing at a time though… I am also dieting and that doesn’t help. Baby steps.

hahha sounds just like me, have started eating healthier and being committed to working out more. Baby steps indeed. There is something l read about ego depletion, (willpower) so dont have too many goals. A few at a time. I will support you and we can private chat, i am sure people are now like...okkkk....lol

@anonymushepx lol sounds good and you’re right, a few at a time that are realistic enough to accomplish. Setting yourself up for success.
