I started neurontin 2 weeks ago and my anxiety is worse, instead of mainly having in the morning now have it all day, i am also crying more. I am very sensitive to medication so my doctor only put me on 100 mg. Is this normal to have increased anxiety ? I feel like stopping the med instead of going for 4 weeks especially since i feel terrible
Assuming no substance abuse history I will NEVER get why buspar and neurontin and atypical antidepressants seem to get into the mix for anxiety disorders...The answer to your question is give it six weeks....
Was this by any chance prescribed by someone other than a Psychiatrist? Primary Care Practitioners including MD.s PA,s and NPs are notorious for shying away from benzodiazepenes. I am not a doctor...dont even play one on TV. I have had the same shrink for 15 years..I have been on as much as a ludicrous amount of Klonipin and when I was out of work and home bound I was on none. IF you have a specific situation ..real short term..Benzos are NOT the way to go...if you suffer from anxiety and it isnt going away any time soon..Well I just dont get it...These medicines have been around for as long as they have because they work and allow folks who have anxiety to live normal lives...Why are we treating anxiety with neurontin..who dont we try a tramadol and flexeril compound wont be awake long enough to be anxious...I suspect that somewhere in that rant I answered your question..six weeks for any brain med and DONT TAKE BRAIN MEDS THAT ARENT PRESCRIBED BY BRAIN DOCTORS (PSYCHIATRISTS)
@steve823j “Primary Care Practitioners including MD.s PA,s and NPs are notorious for shying away from benzodiazepenes.” You are right, I never realized that before! I was on Valium and Ativan for over 10 yrs. In Jan my psychiatrist retired and I got a PCP who took me off of them without saying anything about withdrawal. (2 months of hell) Put me on neurontin, it only seems to help with my neuropathy. I really want a real doctor, my pcp said if I don’t respond to my 4th diabetes med then he will refer me. I am miserable, I’ve had very good health all my life. Not anymore. Thanks for the info.
