I was in a team meeting the other day (our hospice patients are placed in different "teams" based on zip code to make managing their care easier.) One of the nurses was describing a new patient who also has a bipolar diagnosis, and proceeded to make several very incorrect statements. At one point she said, "But you know people with bipolar, they're out of their minds." At which point I said, "I like to think I have control of my faculties at least most of the time, ma'am." The look on her face: PRICELESS. XD
Haha brilliant Ana! Good on you! :-) Really sucks that she'd say that, but hopefully you've given her something to think about, maybe even change her opinion.
@Davii Hey most of the nurses I work with a awesome, but as in every profession there are always ones who think they know everything about everything. I mention having bipolar in passing at times, just in an attempt to give people a different visual when they think about bipolar and other mental illnesses. I have my ups and downs, but I’m a well-groomed and highly intelligent professional; that surprises people a lot because when they think “mental illness” they picture a raving lunatic. Sad when you think that a quarter of all people suffer from some form of mental illness, and there’s still that misconception.
Okay I’ll get off my soapbox
Atta girl Ana
I love it!
