hi. im 19 and i was just diagnosed with hidgkins lymphoma and i know i have to undergo chemotherapy. does anyone know if you for sure lose your hair during the treatment.?
nykol- i can’t answer your question, but wanted to send you good thoughts with chemo and getting better. sending you many good wishes during this time.
Not all types of chemo causes hair loss. R-CHOP does. What type of chemo are you getting?
Wish you the best!
Helo, well I'm very sorry you have to go through this, I know this might be a tough time for you, but you what, don't even think about your hair, Hodgkins is one of the most curable cancers, and you're gonna be just fine, so don't even think about loosing your hair, it might fall, and it might not, I know the first thing you think about is loosing your hair, people don't usually understand that, but think about the after chemo, your hair if it did fall is gonne grow back again, and you'll be just fine, because there's more in you than just your hair.
my son has just finished 6 months of chemo for hodgkins lymphoma,he shaved off all his hair thinking he would loose it but there was no need it grew back in weeks and he has had several haircuts over the last months.hope this helps.
hi it all depends on the type of treatment i had a chemo that would make me loose my hair but when it came to it i didnt loose all my hair so u need to ask n if they say u will then u need to decide whether to have it shaved off before u loose it or do nothing n let it fall out or have a seriously wacky hair cut ud never dare have before n that way u have a great cut until it falls out or a great cut that may just thin but good luck
Hey! I was diagnosed with stage 2a hodgkins lymphoma and had to undergo 8 rounds of abvd chemo and 1month of radiation. Through this whole time I was very lucky to not lose my hair!! It thinned out a bit but I never lost it. The doctors were amazed! So stay positive!!
Like the comments above, hair is the least to worry about at this time!! Even though that wasone of the 1st things that came to my mind along with my eye brows and lashes even before hair. As soon as they told me about the treatment, I donated my hair. Then when I went for a wig, by that time I still had a ton of hair but it was falling out. The hair dresser wanted to shave it but I coldn't get myself to do it so she cut it like a pixie cut and then fitted me for the wig. My wig looks so natural. I used to hve long straight hair but the wig I got is shoulder length. I also lost my eyebrows and lashes which was devestating at 1st but now I have it down pat. There actually are growing in now but I apply Anastasia brow powder that comes in 3 shades to match your tone and looks super natural and I got really good at applying fake lashes. Let me know if you need any tips!! Love makeup and hair! You;'ll look beautiful no matter what!
Hi,Dec. of 2009 I found out I had Mantle cell Lymphoma. I went through the Hyper C-vad regiment. A 'series first then ' B' series. every 3 weeks and 5 days in the hospital. Not alot of fun but you CAN and will get through it. Went to the University of Penn in Philly in August for stem cell transplant. A little ruff but 23 days straight in the hospital really sinks. Luckly my family lives only a hour away.My hardest part was my red count, it always dropped so low. Though everything I received 47 units of blood.I was out of work for a year. Now I'm back to work, my last Pet-scan was all clear!Next Pet-scan is in 3 weeks. We can all get through it. Hair loss and numb feet and hands are a small pricr to pay. You will still be HERE to enjoy life. Attitude is a small thing that makes a BIG difference.-Winston Churchill
Hi nykol,
I just finished my chemo abvd over 6 month, my hair got a lot thinner including eye brows chest hair etc. but i never lost it all. there are two things that helped me more than anything trough chemo, to be surrounded by people that really cared about me and generally to keep a positive outlook.
appart from the occasional "off day" after chemo, what annoyed me most was that i totally lost my sense of smell and could not taste the difference of tea or coffee etc. It has all come back 6 weeks after chemo and i am feeling great, better than before treatment. looking forward to radiation now, lets see what that is going to do ... Good luck and get better soon
