I'm a parent with a 8yr old boy with aspergers. Just started theraphy 3 weeks ago anyone have any ideas how to help control the hitting and yelling it would be very appreciated
Pay attention to what is setting off the temper tantrums. Take the child to his room or another quiet area for a "time out."
He gets set off by everything. The word no is a big one and time outs make him very aggressive
Have patience. Some people with autism can't handle pressure
You can't react to your child's temper tantrum emotionally that will only feed the temper tantrum. ASD, ADD, etc. does not matter, if the child is aggressive the child should be put in a room, no words, questions, or discussions.
Jennmasterson, I so relate. My son is 10 and he used to attack us. He still screams and yells everyday! There's a great book that helped us called Transforming the Difficult Child. Check it out and best wishes.
