I'm new here and want to stop eating sugar. I'm curious, is there other reasons to quit eating sugar other than for health reasons? I'm not overweight or have diabetes so right now I'm having a hard time justifiying quitting. Would love to hear your reasons. Thank You :)
sugar has no nutritional value. it is not essential to your diet. it can cause health problems or you can quit because it is addicting or just because you want to!
I agree with theriverbends. Also, I am not in the "overweight" category although I have some weight I could lose. I do not have diabetes or high blood pressure or anything that a doctor would tell me is a problem. I do, however, have bouts of depression and fatigue. That, and I have moments when I literally binge on sugar like an addict. It's strange behavior when I think about it because I'm not even hungry. I just figure, like stated above, if I'm eating something with absolutely no nutrients, that means there's something else I could be eating at that moment that does have nutrients. I will tell you also that since giving up sugar and processed carbs (and I haven't been perfect with that... had pizza and bread on two occasions), but I have felt so much better, not been depressed, and have had more energy. I have only stopped eating it for 29 days, so we will see how things continue on. I have had insane cravings and headaches when I initially stopped eating it. Those have since subsided. If you still aren't sure, here is a youtube video that you might want to check out that gave me a lot of other scientific reasons to quit eating sugar... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBnniua6-oM
Thank you for responding :) do you think consuming outrageous amounts of sugar daily can affect your mental health? I have PTSD, depression, anxiety and suffer from panic attacks. All these things are obviously related but I take a lot of meds for all of the above. Could sugar affect all those things?
@Ugh77 do you ever listen to podcasts? There is a good show about improving health via natural ways and many of the podcasts on this show address that. It is called the “fat burning man show.” I know that it sounds like this is all about getting buff, but it really isn’t! He interviews all kinds of interesting people, doctors, engineers, businessmen, a navy seal… the list goes on. All people who have gotten over different mental and physical hardships by changing their lives in natural ways and lowering the toxic load on their bodies. I definitely recommend checking it out!
Have read it is related to cancer
I am in a similar position here. I am not overweight and don't have diabetes or any other illness related to sugar (yet) but I want to kick my sugar addiction as a preventative measure, as well as to gain back my independence. I don't want my cravings and addiction controlling me anymore. I hope I'm able to do it and I hope you are too!
For me, my main reason for quitting sugar is freedom. I want to be free from being controlled by a piece of chocolate that doesn't even care about me and will eventually hurt me in the long run. I also want to break the cycle in my family. I was taught bad eating habits at an early age. Now my kids have these habits too. It's time to stop so I can leave a legacy of being healthy, loving and respecting myself.
@bari0417 Nice! Those are amazing reasons!
