I've been suffering from swollen lymph nodes on the left side of my neck for over three weeks now. After my fine needle biopsy, it has somewhat been painful and it has extended to the point where I have a low grade fever up to 38 degrees Celsius for the past 2 days. Doctor wants me to do an MRI scan to make sure what it is and if the swelling doesn't go down, they have to surgically remove my swollen lymph nodes. I've never been more scared in my entire life. The doctor isn't sure what it is but I saw in
My referral letter for the MRI scan that they want to look out for lymphoma.
But my blood test results showed up as positive for the Epstein Barr Virus as well but the doctor didn't tell me that. He just said that I have a non-specific viral infection. I wish I knew more or maybe he gave me some medication to deal with this pain. Been in tears and missing work. Generally not eating and feeling weak.
@annazuafrun...You will have to tell them you are in pain and then they should give you something!
A needle biopsy is not enough tissue to diagnose for lymphoma, they will jave to remove the whole node for biopsy. Stress will do strange things to one nd I know by talking to you that you are stressing a lot over this. Swollen nodes can come because you have an infection and it drains down into the node for filtering. Many times swollen nodes are just that. The waiting is the worst part. Once you find out what it is you are up to the stress will lessen because now you can act on it. I know it is easy for me to say but so far no one has found any cancer right?? If not then I wouldn't worry about it until someone tells you to. I have had both lymphomas and am still here to talk about it. We have many on our site having gone thru the same thing. Remember we are here for you, feel free to lean on us...we have all been there once also. Take Care and keep us notified of how you are doing!
Thank you for the kind words rascal1. And my apologies for the delay in replying.
After the MRI scan results, the doctor immediately wanted to perform a biopsy to remove a swollen lymph node so it can be tested further with a pathologist. They've brought it down to either a bacterial or viral infection, tuberculosis or lymphoma. I should be out if the hospital tomorrow after they dress the wound.
@annazuafrun Sounds like they are right on top of it. Keep us updated please. We are here for ya!
