Hi Kim! I'm on 3200 mg of Neurontin each day! But I also take 3 other things. I take 300 mg Lamictal, 200 Wellbutrin and 50 mg (only b/c this is all I need) Seroquel for sleep & come on...it's an anti-psychotic! Besides BPD, I am bipolar, have GAD and am a recovering drug addict. I think that's all except that sometimes I think I might have ADD or ADHD.

Hi Kim,

I take Cymbalta and Abilify. I find they work really well for anger and anxiety, as well as depression. I have BPD, and have also been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder, and social phobia. For me, the greatest help has been my faith in God - much more than any medication. God bless you, and all the best to you.

BPD is a axis II diagnosis and there are no meds for it, just for the axis I issues that many of us also have. I have had adverse reactions to several meds. I now take Venlafaxine for major depression and Risperidone for anxiety and hallucinations.

Thanks for this, tools; I do agree, as I have found no meds that work specifically for BPD, but several that have made my symptoms worse. These are the first two meds that have not actually led me to get worse with agitation and anger, but have led to stability and long-term calm; but as I said in my post, I do believe that my faith and continued reliance on God and not myself has had much more to do with the success of my stability than any medication, and I would not be surprised to have the same results with God and no medication! Thanks again, and God bless you!

Hey i think they're using me as the new guinea pig when it comes to psych meds cause i think i've been through most of them.

I've tried lamictal and epilim, alone and together. Also seraqual, venlor, cipralex, ativan, purbloka, ritalin, stratera, risperdal, rivotril, fluanxol, zoloft and zyprexa.

The most important thing to realize when starting with medication is that the same thing doesn't work for everyone...and secondly...never give up...you will find something that works for you. Lastly unfortunately most of them have side affects.

Let me know if you want to know more about any of the meds i mentioned.

thanks to all for all the feedback...seems like no one meds work the same for two poeple....im always so stressed and anixty riddled...i dont like the side effects of alot of the meds but i dont like being so untsable with my emotions...upping my Neurotin has help....i have read that Zyprexa is a pretty good med but has a big effect on weight gain...Nadine could you tell me what your experiance was with it?

It work really good to stabilize me and i was on it for a couple of months. The only reason i went off it was because of the weight gain. If you can find a way to work past that, and it is possible, then it's excellent. I started on it when i got in hospital and by the time i was released a month later non of my clothes fit me. And i got worse. But it did stabilize. I was so relieved to feel better it didn't bother me at first. But then the weight became such a big issue that I developed a complex about it and became depressed and then the doctor decided to take me off it. We then tried Fluanxol injections. But that didnt work at all. Seraqual is a similiar one to Zyprexa but it doesnt have the weight issues. That also worked really good for me. But it makes you very tired. So you have to drink it like 15mins before you go to bed cause it knocks you out completely. I'm currently on risperdal and i think it's the best one of the 3. Minimum side effects. The quicklet works fantastic. It's just a bit expensive. But fortunately my medical aid pays for it on chronic.

I am on Trazodone and Valium....i am suppose to be taking Celexa but have stopped taking a few wks ago because i wasn't noticing any changes after 3 months of taking it but it was probly a bad idea cause i noticed when i stopped taking it that it was making me alittle less depressed. The combination of meds do help with certain symptoms but other certain symptoms of my Bpd can't be helped at all.

The truth of BPD is that there isn't any medication that can make you asymptomatic, although there are medications that can help make things less intense and more bearable. The path out of BPD symptoms is through work with a qualified therapist. It takes time and effort and you're worth every bit of it. <3

Exercise, sleep, and diet, there is no magic pill, unfortunately. I believe all these pills do more harm than good in the long run.

There are medications that manage the symptoms while you put in the work. Look up Abilify.
