Naturopathic Doctor and Nutrition Expert

I saw Dr. Lindsey on The View and he discussed the health benefits of Naturopathic Nutrition. He has a philosophy where he believes that natural foods can lead to long-term health and well-being. Here is the link to his Site, I found it to be incredibly informative and helpful;

It make alot of sense too.

Thanks Pup.

I'm sure that Dr. Lindsey means well, but honestly, looking at the material on his website it becomes pretty clear that this man is astonishingly uninformed about even some of the most basic biological functions.

For instance, his alkaline diet is predicated on the idea that our bodies can become especially acidic and that an alkaline diet can return them to balance. This is the kind of nutritionist's argument that sounds AWESOME and seems to make such great sense, but is in fact complete nonsense. Nothing you eat or drink can change the pH balance of the body for literally more than a couple minutes. If it did you'd be really sick and death would follow shortly thereafter.

The human stomach is very acidic, and when digested food--no matter whether it was a highly acidic food or alkaline--leaves the stomach it too is acidic. In the intestines, it's greeted by pancreatic secretions that neutralize it, making it all alkaline.

Some alternative cancer treatments argue that cancer cells thrive when highly acidic and die when the alkaline levels are raised. The only part of this that has any truth to it is the second part, namely that high-alkaline environments are deadly to cells---cancer cells and non-cancer cells alike. Which is why the body maintains its own pH balance independent of what food or water is consumed. The only pH-related change you can make by changing your diet is changing the acidity of your urine. Hurray.

On the positive side, he does make good dietary recommendations ("almost all fruits and vegetables, mineral water, greens and green juices, yogurt, orange juice and potatoes").

Unfortunately he makes them based on widely propagated bullshit.

Ross, thank you so much for shedding light on this from a different stand-point. It's always good to see all sides before deciding to move forward with a health and nutrition plan.
