Need daily support as I try to meet goals

I am someone who has good intentions but struggle at keeping my goals. I have found over the years that I do much better with support! So I went on line and found this group and thought I would give it a try.
My goal here is to get healthier. Specifically I need to lose 10 to 15 lbs, and increase my physical activity. I have painful arthritis and I know I have to work on getting rid of inflammatory foods. I have to be very mindful to not over do it with physical exertion or else the pain is worse.
So with all that said, I guess tomorrow I will sit down and write some goals and share them.
Thanks so much in advance for your support.

Letting you know support is here. We look forward to helping you reach your goals. Have the very best day that you can!

Woke up today and knew the first thing I had to do on my road of continued recovery is to drink more water. That is the foundation and the first step. So I figured out my body weight and filled a bottle with 1/2 of that in ounces and my goal is to drink that by the end of the day.
Along with that I am going for a walk. I have to deliver fliers so will kill two birds with one stone (I hate that expression).
Did my PT exercises this morning, got some body work done on my hip and was on ice for 20 minutes.
So far I am doing really good. Now for that walk and later I will post some goals.
Thanks rocksasamickguitar for your support. Love that name!

I am so glad to hear you are on the right track again. yes, drink plenty of water. I live 2 miles from cvs, so sometimes I walk to get my meds that way, or N 1 mile is a BP. I know everyone, so they let me in at night on my walks. I try really hard to walk some every day, although not always possible. Good thing you have the fliers to bundle an activity together with your exercise. think of other things you can do to incorporate more exercise into your daily schedule. setting small steps towards your goals at first as to not get overwhelmed by the big picture. Keep the the awesome effort! John

Thanks John for your encouragement.
So here are my goals for the next week. I will check in at the end of each day so I can be accountable to something.

1) Drink 1/2 my body weight in oz. of fresh water daily.
2) Do my Physical Therapy exercises every day.
3) Walk to the apartment building and back at least 5 days. (there is a big hill on the way back home!)
4) Cut out all processed flour foods.
5) Harvest more dandelion greens and roots and Nettles while they are young. Eat the greens and roast the roots for tea.

Well there are my get healthy goals this week. I was so proud of myself tonight when I ordered Indian food and didn't get any of the breads that I love so much!!! It was hard but my gut sure does like it when I stay away from processed flour!

Until then, Be Mindful and Enjoy something you love today!

Day one:
Accomplished all my goals today. Water (check), PT (check), Walked to Apt (check), Ate no processed flours (check).
So....I realized I wasn't doing that great with getting in my water, but as I write this the jug I filled today is almost gone. I do leave some for when I wake up in the middle of the night so it's perfect.
Did get tempted to eat some yummy garlic bread but passed and when I went to the coffee shop this morning I brought my own gluten free snack along.
So, one day at a time and today was a good one.

Hooray! Good Job! That is awesome! I like yummy garlic bread too, so I know the pressure of passing it up. Day one is under your belt, and you did fine. Looking forward to your continued success at meeting your goals! One day at a time.

Day two:
Okay, I am not going to beat myself up for eating a piece of cheese cake, but it is amazing how the conversation in my head while I was at the restaurant justified it. Anyway, it is something to be aware of and next time maybe I can take the conversation a bit farther and do the better choice.
Anyway..... Water (check), PT (check), Walked (check), Ate no processed flour (1/2 of a check because I know there was probably some in the cheese cake).
Again, one day at a time and tomorrow is a new day.

Don't worry too much about the cheesecake. Small piece or big piece? You still get an "A" cause you tried hard, and met the rest of the goals. One day at a time! Good luck tomorrow!

Well....Day 3
Easier today than yesterday. I noticed that drinking my water is getting easier and usually by now I still have some in my jug and tonight it is gone. Also took a longer walk than I had planned and did great, but later in the day my back started yelling at me. Could have to do with the gardening I did (lots of bending).
So...Water (check), PT (check), Walk (check), Gluten Free (check).
Happy with today and again thank you John for your kind words of encouragement.
One Day At A Time

We must a been thinkin the same thing cause I went on a walk tonight too. Back started yelling to, but i got some distance in, and felt good about it! You worked hard in the garden, bet it is nice. Try not to over do it. Yes, drink plenty of water. You are doing great! This is awesome!

Thanks again John for your amazing encouragement.
Day 4 (daily check in)
Wow, today I went forging in the woods. I feel like I have ticks all over me but I know that is just my imagination. I harvested Nettles which was one of my weeks goals, and water cress. I went with an herbalist and learned a lot from her. I want to go into the woods again tomorrow and get some more Stinging Nettles and dry them for tea. I blanched a bunch, but as with all greens, once they are cooked they really shrink. Also got about 50 Kale starts given to me today. I don't know if I will plant all of them. Probably will give some away.
Anyway, I am counting my long walk while forging as my walk today.
Water (check), PT(not yet, but am going to do them as soon as I get off the computer), Walk (check), Gluten Free (no, had a wheat bun with din din). Again, the conversation in my head was saying that I could have eaten my dinner without it, but I justified it and ate it anyway).
Now my tummy feels bloated. After I eat bready gluten foods it always feels like the there is something in my gut pushing as hard as they can. Very uncomfortable indeed. Well, there is always tomorrow! ONE DAY AT A TIME !

hey Mir, sounds like you had a great walk! That is awesome you could go with someone who know the ins and outs. Good luck on the PT tonight, hope you get in what you need to with your tummy upset. I try to be uplifting, but am down myself tonight. Someone asked me some questions tonight about my back, and my conditions, and I was honest. Made me wonder if I got so much to deal with, how can i offer support to others? Well, I try to anyways. I am happy to hear of your daily goals, whether you meet all of them everyday or not you are putting a solid effort into it. That is always worth an 'A' from me. Yes, one day at a time. Let me know how your PT goes. Peace and hope, John

Hi Mir!
I am so proud that you are making positive changes in your life. I was out walking tonight as my sugar levels are slightly lower than coma levels. I go to the doc tomorrow for insulin. It is like we are both making good changes in our lives at the same time.

Like you, i am increasing the amount of water i drink and decreasing the amount of diet coke. Right now i cannot get enough to drink but that will change. From you I learned i need to weigh myself and drink that many ounces of water each day. I can do that. Does tea count?

Please explain your choice to avoid gluten? I love homemade breads and i think i have never met a carbohydrate I didn't like. Maybe i should also reduce the gluten in my diet?

It is wonderful you have the opportunity to garden and can kneel down in the lawn and care for your gargen plants!!

Keep posting, you sure have encourgaged me on this crudy night!
your sweet greenpepper!

One thing I have learned over the years is in order to heal physically and emotionally, we need support of others and we also need to be a support to others. And John you are all of that and more. It is all about balance isn't it? (the give and take). Giving too much can be just as much of a sickness as someone who tries to do it all themselves. This was such a huge lesson for me. My job for 20 years was a job where I gave to others in a healing setting everyday. I gave and gave of my physical and emotional self to helping heal others to the point where I became disabled. Crazy huh?!
Well, I still am learning as I tend to do too much some days when I am feeling better. Being Human ;).
Well. I thought i would post now since I will be away from a computer tonight. I will post tomorrow on how I did for days 5 and 6. One thing I am really proud of today is eating a nice big salad from what I harvested yesterday in the woods! SO YUMMY and I feel like I just got zapped with tons of nutrients. My body is so happy right now!
Have a Good Day and again ONE DAY AT A TIME!

Dear Greenpepper,
Thank you so much for posting! I am so glad you are becoming aware of your diet and also making little changes on a road to recovery.
I believe drinking water is #1 to our healing process. Our cells need it to survive and our bodies need it to support all our organs and flush toxins. Too much though can be harmful as well, so a good rule of thumb is 1/2 your body weight in oz. And yes you can drink tea as long as it is not caffeinated or full of sugars especially diet ones. Drink Herbal teas and if you have to use any sweetener go with a little bit of Agave or Stevia which does not mess with blood sugars.

One of my biggest downfalls too is Sugary flour goodies. I always have this huge battle in my head when I pass the donuts at the grocery store!

You asked about my choices at dinner last night... well.... the dinner my friend was having was turkey sloppy joes with this wonderful India flavored rice. I could have made the choice of having the sloppy joe over the rice and my body would have been so much more happy. Instead I ate the bread and I felt like crap. Coffee shops always get me too because I love a "sweet" with my coffee. Well I finally got wise and brought my own snack the last time and I wasn't as tempted.
A couple ideas to start reducing Gluten is to start with getting Sprouted Bread and brown rice pastas. The bread is made with live sprouted wheat so your body gets all the nutrients and brown rice pasta still has a good texture. Start small.

Well I hope your night is better. Sending lots of healing thoughts your way.
ONE DAY AT A TIME

I know that the reports will be good, and I look forward to hearing about them! That is good info on the Agave or Stevia, I am going to pass it on to my buddy who is diabetic, and has MS.

I am happy your body is happy...mind too, or just body right now? I like to think i am on top of things, but oh man is it hard to hold the gates closed right now. So if you are zapped up recharged, and happy...would you mind sharin' some of that?

Enjoy your evening, hope to hear more good news later. You are gettin that freight train rollin'. Good job!

Day 5 and 6
Well I'm back home and by a computer so thought I would check in before bed.
Day 5
Water (check), PT (check), Walk (no, but did gardening), gluten free (check), and ate my nettles that I harvested.
Day 6
Water (check), PT (check), Walk (check), gluten free (check). Also did some harvesting of dandelion roots and roasted them for "coffee".

So the last two days were great. I am thinking already of my next set of goals that I will post in a couple of days. I am to the point now where my cravings for white flour sweets are mostly gone. I had to go to Cub for something today though and right where you walk into the store there were huge boxes of donuts! I enjoyed their beauty with my eyes and just kept walking. lol.

One of my goals when I started this is to lose 10 lbs. I don't feel like I have lost anything, but i do feel healthier and that is key. I will weigh myself on my new goal set day and see if there have been any changes. I feel weighing only once a week is good so well see..... ;)

ONE DAY AT A TIME

thanks for checking in, it is great to hear of your positive progress! Yes, only weigh in once a week, better that way than every day. Gardening is good, how is it coming overall? I love my walks when i can take them. Do you have a route, or just where ever you decide to go for that time? It is nice to see you are already looking forward to the next set of goals, to add more to keep yourself heading in a positive direction. I will love to hear of these new goals, and the impact they will have on your life. keep up the fantastic effort! peace and hope, John

Day 7 and goals for week 2

Yippie - All goals (check).
If I was to think of anything to improve on it would be how much spaghetti I gobbled down today. Had it for lunch and dinner. Used brown rice noodles and veggie tomato sauce with tofu cheese mixed in. It was so yummy! And not gluten! But I have to admit I ate enough for 2 people...heehee.
Checking in a bit early than normal because my back is yelling at me. Time to lie down and read a book.
Oh yeah, I also increased a bit more today with my walking which is one of my goals for this week. This week I did go the same route because of the hill and I want to build up my legs. But for the new week I may choose another route with hills as well and see how it goes. I think having new scenery is a good idea.

GOALS for week 2
1) Keep drinking 1/2 of my body weight in oz. of water.
2) Walk at least 5 days (new route) and increase my time.
3) Do my Physical Therapy everyday and add one new exercise (leg lift) with ankle weight.
4) Continue eating gluten free
5) Eat a salad at least 3 times from the "weeds" in my backyard and woods.
6) Play my guitar a little everyday.

Well there are my goals for week 2. Doable and realistic.
