neurostimulator.......HELP!

does anyone have a neurostimulator implant or know someone who does? looking for your/their experience how it went and what it's like now. i'll be scheduled for surgery soon, waiting to be fit it.

Yes I just had the nerve stimulator I had had for eight years due to it being broken(probably due to a recent fall). Now I am waiting for the incisions to heal before I will have the new one surgically implanted. For me it helped with the pain a lot. However beware whenever I had the device on it made my movements jerky at times to the point of needing a cane or walker.

had the trial one last october so i know what you mean about getting zapped. what is yours for?

It is for nerve pain in my hips and legs.

tailbone is my epicenter snd yeah hips, legs and groin. been layed up since last may. mine just came out of nowhere. no fall, no accident. how did you get your nerve damage?

I injured my back when I was 23. I was hospitalized for depression.I jumped from a third story window trying to kill myself. I then had emergency spine surgery which prevented permanent paralysis.

i assume after that surgery you had the implant? how was the recovery process from the implant?

I had the implant ten years later. The recovery after ther implant was a little rocky. I had to learn how to best operate the remote and also get used to the constant vibrations in my legs.I was forever needing the device reprogrammed which for me meant many long trips to the city.

so overall for you was it worth it. were you able to have a normal life as far as getting around? i’ve been 99% bedridden for months and looking for some hope that i’ll be able to get about, drive my car, get back to church and all. and how are things going with you otherwise

Hi Kathy
I will pray that things will go good for you and that you'll be able to do all the things that you want to be able to do again,. I hope you can get the surgery and that things will work out for the good.
God Bless you
You are in my Prayers
Kay

thanks kay, i’m terrified actually! plus no guarrentees. this is our last (human) option. i’m still waiting in the miracle line. waiting on 2 surgeons to get their schedules available to fit me in. keep me on the prayer list ‘friend’ as your on mine Gods grace and peace to you hun

Yes I was able to function almost normally.it did mess up my balance some and made my legs jerky but this was remedied by use of a walker. I am doing very well now. As I had said I had had the first implant recently removed but soon I will be getting a new one. I will keep you in my prayers....keep believing . Hope and healing is on the way.

princess your a doll! thanks so much for your help with this. the whole mess is very traumatic…never been in such pain in my life…i’ll be surely harassing you along the way. when you got home from the hospital, did the stimulator start relieving your pain right away? i know there will be surgery pain but did it help the nerve damage pain right away? as you know, i pray for you all on the boards.

Yes the pain was better and yet it got better with time as my body and mind got used to the vibrations and the change in my average pain level.

oh princess honey, your gonna tell me your average pain level went down yes? did you still need pain meds?

Yes the pain level went down immensely. I was able to go without pain meds for very long periods of time.

oh your giving me such hope hun. long periods of time, are we talking hours, days…longer perhaps?

We are talking several weeks to a month. My pain dr. Always had pain meds available....which was good and bad. I was able to go a month but by the time I received the implant I had developed an addiction to the oxycotin. BE CAREFUL with the pain meds. If the disease of addiction lies anywhere in your background or personality it is so easy for the addiction to manifest. For me I first noted my preference for opiates and anti anxieties was when I was fourteen. I knew I loved them from the first taste of Xanax. Well it is a long story so I won't bore you with the details.....just be careful.

i’m well aquainted with addiction, booze and drugs. thank you for caring enough to warn me. i’ve been on the pain meds of various kinds since last march. right now i have oxycodone and fentynl. no abuse so far…if not for my intense pain that kinda stuff would not last long if i were using. addiction is an ugly thing. was sober 12yrs then drank again another 5yrs. have been cleaned up 6 yrs now…one day at a time for sure. did you ever aa or na?

Yes I am an active member of na. Here in Jamestown our fellowship is very small. I am very grateful for the membership we do have because in some areas of rural north Dakota na is nonexistent.I celebrated nine months clean on march 18.it is definitely one day at a time for me. I have really had to learn to live in today-just for today! I was very challenged when I had the broken stimulator removed. The doctor prescribed tram idol which I had an adverse reaction or may I say an addicts reaction. I had pain but on it I felt hyper full of energy and a strange happy. I was unable to sleep for 3days. I stopped them and got rid of them on the third day when I figured out was happening. I don't count that as using becaus I took them as prescribed and only for the pain. I am glad that is over. I added it to my list of meds that I will not take. That leaves iubprofen for pain. And ice and heat packs. Well it is time to leave for my meeting....
