Hi my name is Amanda I'm 37 years old and currently taking 14 different medications daily some of them 2-4 times a day. I have had Asthma since I was a child, and have dealt with Depression for many years. I also suffer from IBS and in the last 2 years I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, Restless Leg Syndrome, Anxiety and Panic Attacks, Chronic Bronchitis. 2 weeks ago I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. I have lost 30 pounds in the last month. I use to think that I had a great Doctor that was helpful and listened to what I told him, now I feel like he doesn't have time to deal with me. On the day I was diagnosed with diabetes my BG was 305 my A1C was 11.6% I was in his office Monday for my 2 week check up and since I started the Metformin my BG has steadily been dropping, it was 138 that morning and he yelled at me and said that my BG needed to be 110 and that if I couldn't follow the diet the dietician gave me then he couldn't help me. I told him that I hadn't been to the dietician as of yet that their first available appointment wasn't until 3/23 so he prescribed Onglyza every morning also. From all the research that I have done it says that it takes time to turn this around. So I'm confused and frustrated and am thinking that it is time for a new Doctor. I have been looking for a new Doctor to deal with my Fibromyalgia since my current Doctor refuses to give me any type of pain meds he just keeps increasing my anti-depressant, telling me that it will help me sleep. My pain level on a good day is a 7 and a bad day it is unbearable and I sit and cry. No one can touch me or hug me due to the suffering that I endure and many a night I am awake trying to find a position that doesn't hurt so bad so I can get to sleep. I finally fall asleep when I'm so exhausted that my body basically says it's done and I get 1-3 hours and the day begins again. So any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I won't give you medical advice but I will say that your doctor has no right to talk to you like that! Many of us with diabetes have other health problems that may make us gain too much weight or not metabolize things right and the medicines for the other health problems may even cause diabetes- steroids can and so can some psychiatric medicine. I hope you've seen the dietician and got good advice about how you can try to control this illness with diet but even with a perfect diet it is not easy to control! Some people newly diagnosed with diabetes can fix it with diet and others maybe not. My sister lost 25# in two months and exercised and followed the diet and she is still having to take glucophage. I pray for you and wonder if there is a different doctor you could see if even for a second opinion. You have many health burdens and deserve someone who sees you as a whole person. You need kindness and help with your diagnosis not scolding.
