Hi Vic,
How are you doing? I am posting for the first time in
the OCD Support Group.I have had OCD for a number of
years. I constantly pick on the skin on my hands and
the soles of my feet. I am seeing a psychiatrist in
Florida. I have been on Luvox, Paxil, and now I am
on Zoloft which I have been on for about 2 years. I
know that what I have is an impulse control disorder.
I constantly pick my skin on the hands & feet every
day. The time usually varies when I pick. Sometimes,
I pick in the morning or afternoon but it is mostly
at night. I start to pick when I am usually bored. I
use a lotion at night because I have exzema. I also
wear gloves during the night to protect my hands. I
also do search word puzzles in the family room to
keep busy.
Do you have any other ideas on how to keep my hands
busy.
hi there theresa57
welcome to the support group and im sure we can help u out but more importantly im hoping the exchange of info will help u out.
its a painful one to have as the skin becomes thin and cuts open almost immediately, although not quite as bad as that daughter number three has bad exzema so we made some muslin mitts for her to wear during the day if she was home, as its the same stuff that is/was used to line babies nappies its very soft and tends to just glide over the skin rather than b abrasive to it.
thiss might help u if u dont have to go out somewhere as its impossible to scratch yourself.
how to make them is dead simple as well we brought two yards of material folded it over and cut large oblongs out sewed up the side and bottom then made ties to pop them on hands, the doubled material means she cant get her short (always cut short weekly
nails into the material and snag it nor can she pick or scratch any other part that is in reach.
its helped her especially in this hot weather and they are good ventilators so no sweaty hands like gloves
hope this helps
sending positive vibes and loving thoughts
