Online Dating Scams - FTC Warns

This article discusses FTC warnings about online dating scams;

"You meet some of the nicest people on online dating websites... and some of the sleaziest, including scammers looking only to steal money in the name of love, warns the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
According to the FTC's OnGuard Oline, the typical scam artist creates a fake profile intended to gain the trust of an online love interest, but soon asks the victim to send them money - often to a location outside the United States. "Scammers look for targets of any age and in any location, who they can convince to send money in the name of love," states the FTC.

- Warning Signs: The FTC offers some warning signs that the cyber-lover wooing you online might be in it for your money, not your eternal companionship:

- They immediately want to leave the online dating site and communicate with you via email or instant messaging (IM) accounts.
- They almost instantly claim to have feelings of love for you...."
