Outsiders to depression

Sometimes I find it difficult to tell people I have depression. It seems like such a weak concept it's hard for me to tell others what I'm going through. I had to drop from college (now I'm going back) because of the disease and it was very hard to explain to people. When you do tell others, how do they react?
Are people supportive? How do you explain you have depression? A real illness.

Hi PG22, I think that you tell those who you trust and those who support you in general; your closest friends. Others who aren't as close, such as acquaintances, you can keep in short and to the point about needing some time off for personal reasons. Some people may not understand the severity of depression, but maybe it's something that you can educate them on slowly but surely.

You are right. Thanks for the support!

PG22, Puppy always has the best advice!!!! We are very lucky to have her!!! My advice is to follow Puppy's advice!!!

Now if she could advise me as to how to get a 12 year and a 16 year old boys, to SORT THE LAUNDRY!!! :) No it's not the stores fault that your underwear is now pink!!!!!!!! Lord have mercy.. I hope they don't want to "help" forever!!!

I am really glad that you are getting treatment for you depression because I went a long time with nothing and now am so thankful for the meds because my kids deserve a whole Mom.

Sending welcoming hugs, Suzee

Suzee, thank you so much for your incredibly kind words, you are the best!
