Overbuying gifts

The highest hourly wage I’ve ever made is $30/hour. Factor mortgage, car payment, insurance, utilities, phone, groceries, gas, plus expensive hobbies including skiing, mountain biking, DIY projects and crafting- which means supplies, gear, maintenance, and travel- there’s not much to save. Yet, I’ll spend $10-$25 just to mail a package to someone, not to mention the value of the contents inside. I send packages to friends and family who are going through a difficult time, to thank someone for an appreciated gesture, birthdays, and just randomly as a care package. Typically the value of the contents is at least $50, sometimes $100. People didn’t even give us that much per person for our wedding. I’m overdoing it, but anything less doesn’t seem sufficient. Does anyone have a suspicion why? Am I buying people’s appreciation of me? Do I not feel valuable enough just being there as a friend? Is this what I require to be comforted or feel loved?
